Social Profile:

In 1935, a post-Prohibition tavern named Colony Grill opened in an Irish immigrant neighborhood in Stamford, Connecticut. Since then, Colony has become famous for what is now its only menu offering:a one-of-a-kind, thin-crust pizza that is best served with the signature hot oil topping.

Can’t believe how come I didn’t discover this place sooner. Taken by my friends to the restaurant since this is the fav of theirs. I knew it’d be my top pizza list when I tasted the first slice. Absolutely amazing! Thin crust full of flavors but without the chars! Had to order a take out right away. Good vibes and very cheerful staff too.

I recently placed my first takeaway order from this spot and opted for their hot oil, sausage with mushroom 12” pizza, requesting it well done for a crispy crust. The wait time was about 40 minutes, and the total cost came to nearly $20.

Unfortunately, the pizza wasn’t as crispy as I had hoped, it was soft, and it seemed like there was a mix-up with the toppings, as it appeared pepperoni was mistakenly added and then removed. On the positive side, there were no burn marks, which I appreciated, and the service was excellent with friendly staff.

I hope the food quality improves in the future, as I would love to enjoy a more accurate and satisfying meal.

Unexpected Detour, Delicious Discovery!
While on vacation, we had to make an unplanned stop at the local ER and hospital—definitely not on our itinerary. We needed something quick and comforting, so we ordered takeout from Colony Grill… and we are so glad we did!

We’d never tried Connecticut-style pizza before, and as thin crust lovers, this was heaven. The crust is wafer thin and packed with flavor—truly unlike any other pizza we’ve had.

On our first visit, we tried the Hot Oil Pizza and the Salad Pizza, and it was amazing! If you like spicy, the Hot Oil Pizza is for you. We loved it so much, we ordered again the very next day—this time trying both the Margherita and another Hot Oil with Pepperoni (because we couldn’t resist).

When we picked up our food, we were surprised by the restaurant’s unique interior. The decor features military flags and walls covered with photographs of veterans—a really moving and meaningful tribute.

If you find yourself in Milford or near any of the other Colony Grill locations, this spot is a must-try. Their pizza is simple, super flavorful, and totally crave-worthy. We’ll definitely be back the next time we visit!

I love Colony Grill, and I eat here (via takeout) several times a month for the last couple years. Unfortunately, a reoccurring issue has begun with the pizzas that has completely ruined the experience: they are CONSISTENTLY being overcooked/burnt to the point where the dough is the consistency of stale, dryed-out bread, and looses all of its texture and flavor; one of my FAVORITE things about Colony Grill pizza that separates it from everyone else! When the dough is cooked like this, it tastes like cheese and sauce on cardboard, and has a weird tortilla-like texture to it.

Recently I’ve started selecting the “Light Cook” option, which fixes this issue completely. However, I still receive about 1 out of every 4 orders I place in this condition. I’m very confident something must have changed recently causing this (maybe procedures on how long the pizzas are cooked for? Kitchen staff? not sure.), but I wanted to make sure this was brought to someone’s attention, because it *completely* kills the flavor and experience of the pizza that I’ve known and loved for many years.

I’ll be increasing this review if I see a response, and switching this review back to 5-stars once I see the issue resolved. Hopefully this will get someone’s attention at the restaurant so they can resolve the issue.

I’m a purist the colony is good in its own way it is unique and delicious just not traditional it’s (colony pizza!! ) My family loves it and the atmosphere is good service is great. I don’t do hot oil but they have one with tossed greens on top ..I love it. just don’t expect zuppardis or pepes style.

Pizzas are excellent! Love the ample outdoor seating.

Only downside is parking, but we eventually found a spot

Came here based on great recommendations!
Place is very nice, staff was very friendly.
Pizza was okay I think it needed more time in the oven though, undercarriage was on the lighter side. Next time I will probably order it well done and update my review.

*Takeout is in the back so I would definitely park in their parking lot.

Colony Grill in Milford is hands down one of our favorite spots! We go about once a month, and it never disappoints. The Stingers Pizza with hot oil is an absolute must-try—perfectly crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat. We also love the Salad Pizza, a refreshing and delicious option that balances things out.

The vibe and atmosphere here are always on point—lively, welcoming, and perfect for a casual night out. The customer service is top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who make every visit enjoyable. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to walk in and wait, but trust me—it’s 100% worth it!

If you’re in Milford and craving some seriously good pizza, Colony Grill is the place to be!
