I’m not exaggerating when I say the vegan menu at Colonial Diner is INSANE. Like… reassess-your-standards insane.
• Seasonal special: the Korean wings. Crispy, saucy, addictive. And the ranch? OMFG. OMFG THE RANCHHHHH. I would drink it if society allowed it.
• Poutine: felt like it was airlifted straight out of Halifax. Comfort food perfection—salty, rich, and unapologetic.
• Buffalo chicken salad: UNREAL. Actually spicy, actually balanced, actually satisfying.
• Important note: the chicken tenders are NOT the same as the Korean chicken with a different sauce. Different texture, different vibe, different execution. Respect.
• The lasagna: BLESS LAWD. This thing is sinful in the best way—layers on layers of “how is this vegan??”
• Dessert: the mousse is unreal, and if you know what you’re doing, ask for the off-menu gelato (yeah, it exists). Absolute knockout.

And last but not least—Brandon, our server. Dude smashed it out of the park. Crazy attentive, super on point, even during the holiday rush. That level of service matters, and he delivered.

Bottom line: If you think vegan diner food is mid, Colonial Diner will humble you. Go hungry. Go curious. Leave full and loud about it.

Six of us really enjoyed our time here. Our server Jessica N was fantastic. Our food was delicious and the portions are large and presented so well. The diner itself is nice and relaxing. Highly recommend! We enjoyed turkey clubs, Alaskan Benedict’s, a salad and an omelette. So many vegan options as well!!

We really enjoyed our meal at Colonial Diner. It’s a classic New Jersey diner that deserves to be experienced. The friendly interactions between staff and regulars show just how much a part of the neighborhood this place is.

The food was well above average, and our server Carly was exceptionally friendly and attentive. My wife and I both had the Chicken Orzo soup to start. Then I had the chicken pot pie—it was fresh, with large chunks of well-prepared chicken and vegetables. The pastry topping tasted homemade, not like the usual commercial dough.

My wife had the turkey dinner, which was a generous portion. She said it was one of the best turkey and mashed potato platters she’s had at a restaurant.

For dessert, we shared rice pudding and ice cream—both were excellent.

Plenty of parking and no wait on a Thursday evening. We’ll definitely be going back.

The worst food ever! They didn’t give me salad dressing with my small Caesar salad. The guy Nick tried to use an excuse and said I was 45 minutes late picking up a salad therefore that’s why the dressing was missing and the salad was brown. The thing is the lettuce was brown, melted cheese, soggy croutons. Unacceptable for a $15 salad. I order salads 2 hours in advance and they do not look brown! He would not give a credit for the inconvenience so I am reporting this diner to the BBB.

Update: Thank you to the owner for taking the time to make things right after my salad was made incorrectly. I really appreciate that she cared enough to fix the situation — that’s what true customer service looks like!

I had a solid patty melt here today, August 4, 2025; it’s my go-to order when I’m not sure what to get and I wasn’t disappointed. My vegetarian wife and kids will come back with me next time for the full vegan menu. This place has baked goods and a liquor license, too. Good coffee! #TheDinerDiner

The diner is a more modern style. Looks really clean. The service was very great, Jessica Buckley was our server today. She had big smile the whole visit and was on top over everything. The food was out very quickly. The owner Jimmy was very personable and professional. Next time I am working near here I will stop by.

This is one of those solid, South Jersey staples. A beautiful diner, with all of your favorites, with a great selection of deserts on display. I happened to have a taste for shrimp scampi, and was not disappointed. With a cup of crab bisque soup, and a slice of cherry cheesecake, and I was good to go. The ambience is inviting, and the customer service is good!

first and last time ordering here. Went to pick up my order and had to wait a few minutes for someone to show up at the front desk. Food was not great.. sweet potatoe fries were half wedges and fries? threw them away. $18 for a chicken gyro and fries… and a crazy stomach ache…

Came in today as a first Time patron. Was very disappointed that the food was not very hot. My turkey bacon was burn which I’m not really sure how you burn turkey bacon. We had to wait quite a long time for refills on drinks had to ask for extra napkins and straws. Regular is definitely got treated better than others in the restaurant. Would not go back. I’ve been to busier restaurants in that treated and served better and had better food for the money that I spent here. The female manager is very unprofessional and does not know how to be a manager and absolutely should not work with the public. She should be retrained on customer service. The dishwasher could do a better job managing this place.
