Came here for dinner while we were in town for a sporting event. Waitress was super friendly and helpful but stretched thin. She seemed like the only one working. We ordered a bunch of things, broiled crab cake (5/5), delicious and worth the visit, broiled haddock (5/5), flaky and buttery, super delicious, fish sandwich (5/5), fish patty was tasty and a dollop of tartar sauce was perfect however they didn’t even melt the cheese, just a slice of cold hard cheese on the patty. I also ordered the prime rib, (1/5) and it was absolute garbage ️. For $50, they should serve a better cut of meat and should know what they doing. Cooking a prime rib is not rocket science but they absolutely destroyed it. And above that when I asked them get side of cheese instead of broccoli cheese (I live a carnivore lifestyle), they get a bowl of disgusting velveta cheese and charge me a $1.
Service is horrendous, we wait 50min for the above food to come, everyone was waiting beyond reasonable time, and the place was half empty. But maybe from a small town perspective it was too much to handle. It was $120 for 3 ppl and I am absolutely pissed abt my $50 prime rib.
If you are going to eat here, stick to seafood. Avoid the prime rib like the plague.

i visit Colonial occasionally and find the food satisfying. A few items I’ve had often and like are the fried oysters and the burgers.
Most recently I got the chicken wings. They were hot and crisp, and were nice big and meaty. However, on a whim I decided to try their Yo Mama coating. It is a breading of crumbs, a bit of old bay, and other herbs and spices. Flavor-wise they were very good but they were exceptionally salty! I was very tempted to return them but didn’t want to go though the fuss or the time to wait for a replacement with another item. If I was on a sodium restricted diet, I’d have turned it back after my first bite. So while I can recommend the wings for their size and meatiness, I’d strongly avoid the Yo Mama coating until they reduce the salt by a good 50%
Generally, I’ve found the service friendly and attentive, but usually understaffed compared to the number of guests, so expect slow service. Food can also be slow, I get the sense that they must have a small kitchen or small staff so if they are busy, and you have a time crunch, I’d look elsewhere.
Ambiance is casual, dated…like 1980’s… so dark, pub atmosphere both in at the bar and in the dining room.
So, for Hagerstown, this restaurant does hold its own for quality for the price.

We have been long time customers of both the bar & restaurant & now we mostly order takeout on nights that the kids have sporting events or just busy nights. We’re a family of 5 so it can be expensive to eat out but the prices are extremely reasonable but without sacrificing quality. The cost for us is comparable to most fast food options or even less expensive but of course, IS WAY BETTER!! The owner is absolutely incredible, very helpful & if you do ever have an issue, he takes it seriously. cares about his customers & the employees are all SUPER friendly!! The manager, Joanne (forgive me if I spelled it incorrectly)… she is so kind, helpful, professional & honest!! All of these qualities are hard to find now days & to find this in a LOCAL BUSINESS that we can support is not easy which is why I decided to take the time to write this review!!

You can’t make this up, seriously. We went for dinner at 7pm, ordered coconut shrimp and the prime rib, and hour and a half later we got our food. During that long wait, the staff just ignored us and then tried to charge $50 for the prime rib when it was quoted at twenty something by our server!! No manager, just the cook to make the decisions. The server gave us the prime rib at $28, doing us a favor she said. At least the long Island ice tea was strong, lol. Our mistake going there.

We are visiting from out of town for my FIL funeral. We decided to give Colonial a try because the reviews seemed promising. Boy, we were so wrong. We ordered directly on their website for delivery. It came through Uber Eats, this poor man shows up with our food, and his son had it in his lap the whole time. Our three soups went absolutely everywhere! The lids were half on!! I don’t blame the driver at all. We ordered the soup specifically for my MIL because we haven’t been able to get her to eat much of anything. I call the restaurant, took about three times of calling, finally got someone, and with an attitude she says, “Yeah, I packed that order myself and everything was just fine.” I asked if there was anyway to get a credit at least for the soups. With a huff and puff she goes to grab, who I presume to be the manager. They try to pin it on the Uber driver and say we can just come ourselves to replace a soup. I asked if there is anyway to just credit the soup and she said she will see what she can do. Such a shame to encounter this experience in an already tough situation. Especially after spending $100.

Found this place on Google on my way home to Ohio and decided to stop. Not too busy when I was there. The service was nice and quick. The order came out really quick. I got the double burger, and it was cooked perfectly and was large and filling, as well as great tasting. Also got the soft pretzel appetizer, and it was the same. Overall, it was a great experience. I would certainly stop in again if I was in the area.

I highly recommend Colonial Bar and Grill to everyone! The food was absolutely delicious, and my experience was top-tier. I ordered the pork chops, and they were cooked exactly how I asked—fried lightly, perfectly seasoned, and so flavorful. Every bite was amazing. Picked my wife up at Hagerstown airport and she was hungry, so I looked for eating establishments near us and decided on the Colonial Bar & Grill as they had a good assortment of items on their menu. We were both totally satisfied with our meals,waitresse, and price as this was our first time there. Will definitely get together with some friends and head there in the future.

Took over one hour to get our food! We were told it was because they were filling doordash orders. Bty, only 2 other tables were occupied. The manager was very defensive when we voiced our displeasure. They also charge a fee for credit card users, so beware of the extra charge if you pay cash! The food was good once we got it.
