What a lucky find. We were on a road trip from New Jersey of all places and rode the Natchez Trace Parkway down. I was hopeful for a good southern BBQ experience and this was everything and more.
Our waitress, Ashley, was so kind and friendly and made sure to explain the nuances on the menu, including their different sauces. The Cardinal sauce (for the Belmont H.S. Cardinals) is one of their house specialties – the perfect combination of spice and sweetness!
They also have a very good white sauce, which has a vinegar flavor. I’ve never had anything close anywhere else!
We ordered 12 wings, and I got the smoked chicken, which tasted spectacular. The homemade baked beans were also among the best I’ve had. And this was real fried okra!!
Also a hit at our table was my brother’s brisket and my mom absolutely loved the reuben sandwich!
You also cannot beat affordable prices.
Finally Ashley and Israel made our dog, Judy, feel so welcome!
I would drive hundreds of miles out of my way to go here again! A total gem of a spot.
We ordered ribs, onion rings and slaw. The onion rings were delicious and plentiful!
The staff are very friendly, the guy at the front counter supplied us with enough sauce to sink a battleship – thanks for that!
The food arrived quickly and was very reasonably priced.
I’d definitely drive out of my way to come back to Cole’s, unfortunately I don’t have any photos of the food because I ate it before I could take pictures.
These folk are great at what they do and are sincerely appreciated!
Tomorrow I’m going back for brisket, I’ll try to post some pictures but I doubt that it’ll last long enough..
You know the food is going to be good long before you get across the parking lot. The aromas from the BBQ pit will greet you right after you open your car door.
This is the kind of no frills BBQ place that we look for when cruising around the countryside. Our food was brought out to us in a styrafoam box with plastic flatware prewrapped with a napkin on the table. Drinks are served up in styafoam cups.
I ordered the brisket plate with my two sides being fried Orka and baked beans. My wife ordered the Rib Plate (4 ribs) with the same sides. I also ordered a basket of onion rings for us to share. I ordered sweet tea but had to cut back to unsweet for the refill. The sweet tea was a bit too sweet for me.
We had two BBQ sauces to choose from. A tangy spicy sauce and a sweeter milder thick sauce. Both were very good.
The food was every bit as good as we expected. Everything was served up with
a warm smile and friendly service.
Better get here early for lunch. There are only six or seven tables. We arrived at 11:30 and two tables were already occupied. By the time we left, diners were waiting for a table to be available. Clearly, this is a place all of the local flock to.
Credit cards and, of course, cash is accepted.
Love the smoked meats and the obviously updated menu since I was last there a few years ago. I wish I had of had more time on this particular day but I was working and it was lunchtime.
I was definitely pleasantly surprised with the updates made inside, I had no idea until I walked inside & off handedly decided to bring back some lunch after filling up at the gas station directly across from Cole’s. (It looks amazing & completely different than I remember just a few short years ago! )
I thoroughly enjoyed it and I will definitely be back!!
