Cod Down Chippy: Serving the local Waynes and Waynettes of Odd-Down. There’s no mistaking the shop, just follow the smell of weed and look for people with man-bags and awful tattoos loitering outside. The shop itself won’t win awards for design and neither will it’s food. It’s changed ‘hands’ quite a lot over the recent years and I think it’s got a lot worse in quality. 2 x ‘large’ cod and 1 x large chips will set you back £20. The cod wasn’t great quality and on the small/skinny side for £7.20 a piece. Definitely not worth the money. It was chewy on the ends and the meat flakes were disappointing. The batter was average but it wasn’t too greasy. I’d give it a 3/10. If you order large chips, expect 2kg of them. They won’t be crispy but anemic looking and slightly soggy. I would give them 4/10 – The portion size is impressive. The small fish is masked by the enormous chip portions. The battered sausage was lacking considerable batter. The staff are friendly and polite but don’t expect to use your card, this is a ‘cash only’ shop. Wink wink nudge nudge.
Would I recommend Cod Down Chippy? It’s cooked upon order and it’s the closest one in the area. It’s definitely worth driving somewhere else if you can be bothered.

I usually hate fish and chips due to the places I had bought them from… soggy and absolutely horrid. However, I came to Cod Down Chippy to try out their food as I heard they were really good and affordable.. they were not wrong !
I have never seen such a clean take away restaurant! The owner was absolutely so wonderful and the dish was so delicious I still can’t stop thinking about it to this day. I truly believe the owner is a secret master chef. He has his own recipe and it’s finger licking good!! Absolutely wonderful , family friendly atmosphere . I recommend yoh to try it!!! It’s so delicious and the fish was so crispy and so tasty my goodness!!! 10/10
