I visited Coco Maya in San Diego expecting a nice meal, but the experience was deeply disappointing. The food itself was ok. However, it was the service that truly ruined the visit. When we walked in, our party was escorted to the bar and told by the host, Malik, that walk‑ins could only be seated there. We asked him to put our name on the waiting list for a table, and he said he would. Yet there was no follow‑up. Minutes later, two other guests had the same exchange with Malik, waited at the bar for only a moment, and were seated at a table and served a full meal while we were at the bar. It felt like we were overlooked and not given the same consideration. We were very nicely dressed! I am a fashion stylist you think the rest!

I raised my concerns with manager Lindsay. She said there had been cancellations and seemed unaware that we’d asked for a table highlighting a lack of communication among the staff. Her tone was defensive and dismissive; when I mentioned the timeline, she brushed it off with a curt “Have a good day,” which felt more like “get over it.” A second manager, Casey, listened calmly and offered $15 off our bill, but by then the experience had already been soured. Paying $60+ for unremarkable food and such unprofessional service left us feeling frustrated and unwelcome. I walked away feeling that my concerns weren’t taken seriously.

Based on this visit, I can’t recommend Coco Maya. The food was average, and the service was so poor that it negated any enjoyment. I will never go back, and I hope the management takes steps to improve communication and treat all guests fairly and courteously.

I can here for the rooftop bar area and if did not disappoint! What a charming area. I got the short rib Benedict and it was satisfying! The Paloma’s were really REALLY good!!! I loved those! It was quiet and empty while I dined, and the staff would pop over, I had to keep asking for water though…

Coco Maya is one of my friend’s mist visit recommendations. It is located in Little Italy, San Diego, make sure to get a reservation because the place is absolutely gorgeous! The vibes feel like you are in Bahamas or Honolulu! The food was so delicious. We tried the Spicy Mango Ceviche, Maine Lobster Tacos, the nachos (dressing was a bit wet but still tasty). For drinks, we had the Mango Guava Spritz and Frozen Coconut, both no alcoholic hehehe. The server was nice and the vibe was amazing. So happy we tried it!

I never write Google reviews but I just had to write one for this gorgeous venue!

I was tasked with organizing a summer work party here for our staff who are mostly remote workers, hoping for a relaxed rooftop San Diego vibe… it couldn’t have been more perfect.

The venue felt airy, sunny, colorful and full of that effortless holiday energy. With views over Little Italy Plaza and beautiful dappled light softening the heat, it was the ideal setting for our group of 25. The décor was fun and vibrant, and absolutely set the tone for the rest of our day.

The food and drink were outstanding. Presentation of the cocktails was beautiful, and every drink was packed with flavor and flair. The poke tuna and shrimp coconut dishes were huge hits, and the Pistolero Paloma and White Negroni were also fan favourites.

But for me, the most important thing was the service… it was exceptional… efficient, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Natasha and her team went above and beyond for us at every step.

Natasha was incredibly attentive to our needs throughout the planning process, even though I was based in New Zealand on the other side of the planet! They were open to us bringing in a Mariachi band to perform for a surprise moment during the event. Natasha also created a custom menu featuring our company branding and set up our food table with personalized Flaviar touches, which made the whole experience feel elevated and special.

This was easily the best hospitality we experienced in all of San Diego.
I would 100% recommend this venue and truly hope to work with Natasha again for future events.

I’ve been to Coco Maya many times — it’s one of my go-to spots in San Diego. This visit was a Saturday afternoon before heading to an event, and I was thrilled to find out they were running happy hour on food (the host initially said no, but our server confirmed it). I ordered my favorite: carnitas nachos, which aren’t on the regular menu but pop up during happy hour. They were as delicious as ever and served in a portion size that’s generous without being overwhelming. The rest of my group had burgers, which they loved, and we shared fries that were good but took a backseat to the mains. Service started a little slow but was friendly and efficient, and they managed to turn our table quickly despite being busy and recovering from a large event. Coco Maya always delivers solid food, a fun atmosphere, and plenty of drink options.

Coco Maya definitely wins points for the vibe—scenic setting, breezy atmosphere, and the kind of backdrop that makes your cocktail look better on Instagram. The food? Decent. You’ll eat it, enjoy it, and probably forget about it by tomorrow.

Service at the bar was fine—nothing offensive, nothing memorable, just kind of… there. I’d swing back if I was already in the area, but I’m not exactly rearranging my weekend plans for it. Solid hang, not a destination.

This is my second time coming here! Always a good time on the weekend when there’s a DJ during brunch! We got a mimosa tree and enjoyed all of our food!

Cute!!! Got there right at 9am, first ones seated, our choice (helps to have reservations). I had the Pork Belly Benedict and the Bad Hunny. Both delicious! My friends ordered the Tropic Thunder, Power Bowl (vegan sub) and the Breakfast Sandwich. No take‐aways! We were celebrating my birthday and so I was surprised with a dessert . Next visit will be for dinner!

I could not leave a stronger review… But I shall try! It’s cool, clean, fun, and a great atmosphere – especially the rooftop balcony with a nice view, or inside if you prefer.

I’m a VERY selective premium tequila drinker, and boy did they deliver!

They not only have some of the world’s best tequila’s you won’t find elsewhere, but the service was out of this world!

And when I asked general manager Terissa a basic curiosity question about one of the tequilas, I was graced with a detailed, expert A+ “PhD” advanced explanation of various tequilas that you’d expect to see on a fancy TV show, or something.

I mentioned this to her colleague Natasha, who doubled down and helped me end the night with probably the best tequila I’ve ever tasted.

Which one? Well, this isn’t an ad for that tequila brand, this is to help spread the word as widely as possible about how great the Coco Maya establishment is, and why everyone should visit it like RIGHT NOW.

Ask either one of these amazing ladies what tequila Jason is referring to, and they will ensure you experience the VIP level of service that I did.

Then, don’t thank me, thank them!
