Stopped here on a Saturday night, from out of town. Downtown is dark at night and it’s hard to tell this was a Mexican restaurant from a distance. The windows were wet with condensation from the air conditioner and humidity so you cannot see inside before entering.
From a recommendation from a local who was coming out of BBQ restaurant about 3/4 mile up the street, she said the Mexican restaurant is way better especially after dark because the BBQ restaurant runs out of things and is not as fresh. So I went to the Mexican restaurant based on her recommendation.
The staff was friendly inside Cocina Real. The food was fast and very good. The tacos come with dual corn tortillas and meat. Anything else you want on it is at a mini salad style bar.
They do charge a bit extra for credit card payment but the staff is very honest as when I accidentally left my credit card in the check (quenta) billfold, they ran out to my car to bring it to me before I drove away. (Thank you for this.)
I recommend this restaurant if you are in this area.

We truly enjoy eating here. The kids eat more then just the cheese. The Street tacos are seasoned and generously portioned. I can get an elote here. The service is wonderful. Always a friendly face and efficient. You will enjoy this jem in Roanoke.

I was there for late lunch. My table was horrible because I was facing the wall & I was in a corner; but since I was dining alone, I didn’t want to complain. I felt rushed to make an order even though the restaurant continued to empty as I sat there; but I had literally just clocked out, so I was ready to slow down. I received my birria tacos very quickly after ordering them, however that’s kind of where service slowed nearly to a stop. I was asked by various staff members early in my visit how everything was & received refills adequately. Dessert was not available even though they have several to choose from on the menu. My ticket sat on the table with payment ready long enough for me to empty my glass again. There is an additional 4% charge for all payments unless you pay with cash and apparently you have to pay by the door although I stood waiting for my payment to be accepted… a to go order came in had their payment taken & all 5 of the wait staff just looked at me several times before my waitress who was busy cleaning tables broke away from that task baffled, saying I’ll check you out. I believe service will improve as they work out the new business kinks because everyone was nice & the food was excellent.

As an out of town contractor working & lodging in the area.. this has been my go-to spot for consistently delicious food and menu selection. I think others might agree as I’ve seen more people dining in here on my several visits than anywhere else in the area. I wish they were open on Sunday.

Great local restaurant, staff are fast and friendly and bring the refills fast. The cheese dip was good and the tacos were tender. Would recommend if in the area.

What an absolute delight to find this restaurant when passing through. If you are within reach GO! You won’t be disappointed. Absolutely delicious. My Son and I had the combo quesadilla, which was incredible. My Wife had the taco and enchilada combo – muy excelente! Hope we get to come back again someday! Oh, and churros!!

We called the day before to inquire about buying a gift certificate. When we arrived and paid, all we received was a hand written “note” with an employee’s signature and the cash register receipt for the purchase if &59.00. When we got back to the car and looked at the receipt, they had charged an extra $7.50 for the debit card payment. This is illegal in all 50 states to charge more than their processing fee. $7.50 is 15% of $50.00!!! On 2nd trip back in, they refunded the account back to the card and I paid cash. I still wasn’t given a correct receipt for only the $50.00 (not $57.50). On the 3rd time that I went in, before I could say anything, they handed me my $50.00 back say it they didn’t want my money. During the 2nd trip back in, I told them that they needed to inform customers of the fee in advance and all 3 of the people at the register simply said “everybody knows”. BAD way to do business. I may call my card issuer and the attorney general to let them educate these people about the illegality of what they’re doing.
