Cocina Authentic Mexican restaurant is a fast casual Mexican takeout that can house roughly 20-30 patrons while having additional space for patrons coming in to order. While you can drive along McHenry road to the place, the entrance opens up east towards North Arlington Heights road. There are bathrooms further in the restaurant if needed.

When I first encountered this restaurant on Google Maps, I think there was a bit of a mismatch in priorities in terms of marketing what it is and what it advocates for. WHiLe I wIsH tHe MeNU WaSN’t LIke ThIS, HeRE We ARe in 9O% ThAnks, i hAtE iT vIBes, bUt oNwARd NeVERtHELess. I ended up having 2 orders of Birria Egg rolls and a chorizo burrito. I guess one of the orders of the Birria Egg rolls turned into a Birria burrito.

With the very minor exception of needing to sharpen their burrito knives while slicing them in half (if that’s even a thing), major props to the main cook handling the food. Both burritos were packed in and were very tasty. I wish there was the option to have the consomme as a side like you would when ordering an Italian beef, but I digress. The red and green salsa were both adequately spicy but the green salsa didn’t quite meet the acidity I was looking for. It seemed nonexistent in that batch.

It’s not quite like “El Famous Burrito” on the lower end in terms of food and service quality, not quite like “Hay Chihuahua” on the higher end. There’s quite a bit of room for improvement, but it’s worth taking a try if you don’t already have your select favorites.

Staff was very friendly! They have the BEST Queso Birria tacos I have ever had!! and the fact that they make their own horchata is amazing! The rice and beans were really good too! Definitely going to come back!

Amazing! Our family stopped in to try this place for dinner when the restaurant next door was too busy. We were more than happy with our decision! We all ordered something different and it was all fresh and delicious. We had burritos, green chicken enchiladas, nachos, chips and salsa and street tacos. The service was super friendly and they even brought us free dessert! The tres leches was fantastic! We will definitely be back!!!

I was in the area and was looking for a quick bite to eat. I decided to stop in and was planning to get take out and eat at home, but after striking up a conversation with the staff I decided to dine in. The restaurant is brightly decorated and there is an appropriate amount of seating for the space. All of the food was handmade to order and I was amazed at the speed that it was delivered. I had the asada tacos with rice and beans and they were amazing! I even ordered extra rice for my sister at home. The workers were very polite and warm and even offered me a sample when I couldn’t decide what I wanted. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants delicious Mexican!

This is a family owned restaurant that has friendly service and great food. I don’t understand some of the negative reviews. Been here numerous times and every time it was great. Everything is made fresh, even the chips. The guacamole is excellent. Tacos have generous portions of meat. Birria is great. Everything we’ve eaten was very good. Give this new place a try

Nice decor and very friendly staff. I know most people wouldn’t consider the refried beans as an important factor in judging a Mexican restaurant, but I do. They were VERY tasty. The green chicken enchiladas were also excellent, and the chorizo taco was great. The only downside would be the prices. It’s just too expensive to go as frequently as I would like to, but it was a very pleasant experience.

This new place that opened in the summer of 2022 has the homey aura of a mom and pop operation — because that’s exactly what it is. Since we aren’t familiar with the finer points of Mexican cuisine other than tacos, the owners took the time to explain what the dishes were and what went into them. The quesabirrias were a delicious new experience for us (a cross between a taco and a quesadilla). The chicken burrito was large enough to be satisfying without being overly huge. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. Our aging palates lean toward the milder side, so we forewent the two sauces (hot and hotter). Although we don’t drink, we saw an extensive selection of tequilas. We’ll be back.

My coworker and I had lunch here today and it was truly delectable! Growing up with authentic Mexican food made by my mom and my tias, I recognized the flavor and style. I will definitely be coming back and highly recommend to anyone who’s looking for a new Mexican spot. We also had shots of tequila and were offered to sample their passionfruit margarita which hit the spot. Very friendly and welcoming service, thank you!

This location is not too far from my home, so we will be regular customers–especially after our first order. I stopped in for take-out today and ordered 2 of the Flautas platters. The chicken is actually breast meat and could use more seasoning, unlike other Mexican restaurants where you get a mixture of chicken. The rice is good, and the beans taste like my homemade refried beans. All in all, a good meal and close by too.
