It was my first time here and I must say, I was very surprised of how clean it was inside. I’ve never been to a restaurant so spotless. Don’t let the outside of the restaurant “fool” you! It looks old and dirty but once you walk in, you will instantly change your mind. And the food!!! Fresh, yummy, and delicious!!! The staff very friendly! I will definitely be back! I hadn’t been by since 2019 when I was still in high school and decided to try them out when I moved back to tow since I live right down the road now.
I cannot express how this place is THE place for southern food. Everything was well season and had actual flavor, and cooked to perfection. Regardless of it being just an hour before close, the food tasted and felt fresh. The catfish is thin and crispy (my personal preference), the tartar sauce is amazing, and the rolls are soft and fluffy.
My favorite part was the mashed potatoes, greatly seasoned with garlic and not pasty. The Mac and cheese is simple but creamy. I will be back at least once a week I’m sure, I need to try all the other menu items!

They changed the seasoning on the chicken, it’s extremely salty and strange tasting. The mashed potatoes are not edible. It has some strange seasoning in it. The mashed potatoes smell like dirty people. The green beans taste old. And the gravy has the same strange seasoning in it. I wasted money on food that no one wants to eat.

Very nice place. My husband and I are fairy new to town. We love Mabank and GBC. The people are amazing. So friendly and high spirited. This cafe was busy, very helpful at the counter, food was better than I expected. “Made by grandma” kind of soul food. I loved watching the staff take care of the elderly customers. Will definitely come back again
