We were staying at Pennyrile state park and decided to eat at the Clifty Creek. We were given a menu when we checked in . You place your order by phone from your room and they call you will your order is ready. I can’t tell you how good the food was you will just have to try it yourself. I got the club sandwich with ham, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle , bacon and american cheese it was $9 and worth it. My husband got the fried catfish with hushpuppies and your choice of 2 sides for $11. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We picked it up and they included everything we would need including sauces.

I am so sorry, but the food was really tasteless and the fish was only lukewarm which scared me after I took a bite. The pork chops were a little pink and hard to chew. Green beans tasted straight out of can with no seasoning added. Hush puppies burnt. Everything was just incredibly bland and something I expect to be served someday when I’m in a nursing home. I will say I was able to eat the mashed potatoes, but that’s what I had to survive on for the next 12 hours until breakfast. Please, PLEASE season your food more. I want so badly to love this place! It’s the only place to eat at the lodge and costs 15 dollars for really poor quality food. The breakfast was much better, but still rough. My daughter tried to drink chocolate milk and it was spoiled. Tried another and it was also spoiled. Coffee kept running out because it’s in a tiny carafe so you have to continuously ask them to refill it so you can get another 3 oz refill of coffee. Get a bigger carafe, management. For your staff and your customers. So much potential with this place. I think a menu instead of a lunch and dinner buffet would be much better since it’s the only place to get food within 15 to 20 minutes.

We stayed in a cabin last week and because I had eaten at the Clifty Creek several times in the past, and the food had been very good with an awesome menu, several of us decided to get breakfast there on the morning of May 12, 2024.
The food from the breakfast bar was not hot, not even warm, in fact the sausage and gravy were cold. I notified staff (5 of which were sitting at a round table eating and on their cell phones) of this and they acted like I had put them out. One of them walked over to the bar, stirred things around, and went back to her seat at the table.
This is a catastrophe waiting to happen, because in order to keep hot foods out of the DANGER ZONE you never use hot holding equipment to reheat food. Foods should be heated to safe temperatures prior to holding. Hot holding equipment, is designed to maintain current temps, not bring food up to temp.

I’m from Michigan and we have laws about this, I’m sure the great state of Kentucky has too.

First off, the restaurant is so cute and the view of the lake while dining is great. Took at least 5 minutes for server to come to our table and there was maybe 4 other tables in the restaurant so they weren’t busy. Our server seemed a little confused as she didn’t get a couple things we ordered correct but she was very nice and made things right so I’m ok with that. I ordered the all you can eat catfish with a side salad and onion rings for $11. It came with hushpuppies, they were homemade and delicious. Catfish was good and hot. Side salad was good too. Onion rings weren’t that great. Meal was priced reasonably. My son ordered the kids chicken strips and fries. He really liked the chicken strips he didn’t eat the fries cause he doesn’t like fries. They do not have a huge selection of side items to choose from to substitute. That would probably be my only suggestion for improvement at this restaurant. Offer more side item choices such as applesauce, chips, fruit cups, mac & cheese etc… more kid friendly sides.

Sunday lunch buffet was great! Large salad bar, lots of choices, Brussels sprouts, catfish, hush puppies, macaroni and cheese, pasta salad, lasagna and desserts. A dish I loved had ham, turkey, bacon with cheese on toast topped with a cheese/ hollandaise type sauce and baked. Forgot the name of it, but we don’t have that dish “up north”! Went back for seconds of that dish! Yum.

The food here used to be amazing and very friendly. NOT ANYMORE! I ordered catfish (which were pretty good) but they put super burnt hush puppies in the box. Then I had breakfast and the sausage was burnt.
