Came here with my wife last weekend. Immediately you’re greeted by a rather elegant interior, with intricate woodwork, beautiful live plants with flowers, and even Gouldian Finches! And that caramel macchiato might be the best I’ve ever had! And they have rooftop seating? That’s cool!

That’s the good, here’s the not-so-good. The service is slow, as they literally handle each customer order by order, instead of having each customer wait aside like basically every other coffee place does. Also, the old guy was kind of rude, and a bit of a Smart Alec. A lady was inquiring of what was in one of the smoothies, and he, in a rather impatient tone, replied “It’s what’s on the board.” I didn’t like that. The value for money for the food is also not the greatest, maybe even bad depending on what you get. I got the Santorini Grilled sandwich, which is basically just a prosciutto grilled cheese, but I thought it sounded good so I ordered. It wasn’t really that special, and for $16? Mm mm, that’s a rip off.

Verdict: Slow, and a bit rough around the edges, but they do have great coffee and a beautiful interior if you’re willing to put up with the negatives.

From the moment you see the building, you’re drawn in by its beauty and lush greenery. As you explore more, there is a feeling that every party there is having their own fun and unique experience. I’m so happy to we decided to visit and was pleasantly surprised with the high quality scratch cooking food. Don’t pass on the sweet potato tacos, we added the chorizo and avocado to balance it out. The Ken’s #2 omelet was as hearty as it sounds from the menu description. Expect a line, though it goes quickly. Add Clifford’s to your list of spots you can’t miss when enjoying the west side of Michigan.

This may be the cutest coffee shop and right on the canal, loved it!! Coffee was good and so was the food. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Limited parking in their lot. I only docked a star because the prices are higher than any other coffee shop I’ve been (that I can remember).

Complete underwhelming experience. Been here a few times because we love the ambiance, that said, this visit was a reminder that atmosphere only goes so far if the experience doesn’t match.

The younger staff has always been great, friendly, attentive, and they usually make the coffee for you and bring it to your table. This time, the older gentleman at the front took our order and seemed less than interested in providing good service. I ordered an iced coffee with creamer… Instead of preparing the overpriced coffee for you, there was an uncovered metal bowl of half-and-half sitting out for self service. Not exactly the warm, thoughtful service we’ve had before…

We also decided to try the avocado toast for the first time… and probably the last. It was barely toasted sliced bread with avocado that was cut like a child’s meal. No seasoning, no garnish, no creativity. At $12.50 (plus $3.50 to add an egg), it felt more like something you’d throw together at home than a menu-worthy dish, especially at that price point. One of the younger staff members did end up bringing some seasoning and sliced tomato to try to recover the sad $16 sliced toast.

Details matter, and that’s what keeps people coming back. This time it was a dud.

Stellar all around. The owners have curated various lovely pieces of art, including stained glass windows. As a plant lover myself, I adored being surrounded by greenery, especially outside. Their multi level patio area sits along the water, adding to the nature. The food, baked goods and coffee were all great, and the young employees working there were adorable and super nice. Well done, can’t wait to go back.

Super adorable coffee shop with a solid offering of food items. It is owned by a couple that lives on the property and clearly put a lot of love into the place. It definitely has a vibe- full of plants and cages of birds and unique furniture and vibrant paintings. There’s only a few parking spots but you can find a lot down the block. Seating out back on a patio that’s right on the water (slight fishy smell when we were there). Free pet rocks for the kids. 🙂

Found this spot while looking for breakfast and it has good reviews and it looks cool. And it does looks cool. Very artsy. Plants and birds everywhere, art work everywhere. All the furniture probably refurbished from somewhere. Doesn’t look like a typical cafe at all.

Breakfast was a hit. I got a full plate of eggs and beans. Goes well with my iced coffee. Iced drinks should have served in glass instead of plastic cup but whatever. It is a little bit more expensive than typical breakfast place.

Parking is a problem like everyone are saying. They have a separate parking lot by the roundabout.

Beautiful breakfast gem in St Joe with incredible food. We are staying near The Inn at Harbor Shores and it’s an easy 5 min walk away! We will be back ❤️

Wonderful setting on the Canal with seating outside or inside. Lush gardens add to the ambiance.
We enjoyed the Huevos Racheros with corn tortillas. Staff was polite and informative.

A strong contender for my fave café in the USA. It’s located in a brick fortress, which looks ancient but was built from scratch a decade ago along a blind canal that branches from the nearby St. Joseph’s River.

Dining here is a multi-sensory experience: on a bright summer day the main patio along the canal is lustrous as a Renoir painting: full of vibrant flowers and plasticine succulents. Grab a seat at one of the umbrella-shaded tables and watch the masts of the boats bobbing in the marina next door. This is an ideal place to bring your summer beach read or a print edition of the Sunday Times and linger over a lap bowl of coffee and a hearty portion of oatmeal. Or try a power smoothie or one of their many interesting entrees.

Prices are a little steep for a coffee spot, and yes service – as a few gripers have pointed out in low-ball reviews – can be slow. But this is a summer bohemian hangout where, for a single Andy Jackson, you can enjoy a solid meal while immersing yourself in a magical setting. Think of it as breakfast crossed with a day retreat. Err, make that a half-day retreat since Cliffords shuts promptly at 1 pm. That’s about my only complaint about the place. Otherwise it’s radiant.
