This place was amazing, thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family. Kids loved the cheese tots of course, but me and the wifey loved their chimichurri!! Really friendly staff and chill atmosphere.

Let’s start by saying there is nowhere to park at this bar. This isn’t a restaurant but they are charging restaurant prices. My fiance ordered for us and I was supposed to eat with her on her lunch break. That didn’t happen and I’ll explain why in a minute. My fiance said it’ll be ready by 2:21 p.m.. I’ll live right down the road so I left by 2:15. When I pulled up there were 2 or 3 spots to park in out front. Those spots were full so I pulled around to the side and noticed there wasn’t any parking available there either. I had to make my own parking spot behind the food truck. This was not a parking spot. I walked around to the front and went in the door and was greeted by a lady who was behind the bar. I told her I was there to pick up a to-go order. She walked to the back and grabbed my food. When she came back I noticed she didn’t have any drinks in her hand. I asked her where my drinks were and she said there were no drinks ordered but she could make me some. I said I know she got drinks because she literally just asked me what I wanted before I went and picked up the food. I said the drink should have already been paid for and I’m not buying anymore. She looked at the receipt and lo and behold the drinks were right there on the ticket. She proceeded to make my drinks and then handed them to me. I said thank you and have a nice day. Now I usually always check my order before I leave but I was in a hurry and did not. I looked at the receipt and it was in total $48 and some change. I thought that was expensive for what I had just ordered. I had chicken tenders with tater tots and my fiance had a salad with steak on it. If you take away the $6 tip the plates ended up being $21 a piece. I don’t know about anybody else but $21 for tater tots and chicken tenders is very expensive. When I got to my fiance’s work I went to the break room and sat down with her to eat. I opened my styrofoam container and was shocked at what I saw. I had six tenders that were dry as a bone and no sauce on them. Instead I had these tiny containers of sauce. One was the cheese that I was charged $2 for that was the size of a fast food sauce packet. It was about half full and nowhere near enough to go over the tater tots. The sauce that was supposed to be on my chicken tenders was in the same size container as what the cheese came in. These tenders were full size chicken tenders. You should have at least gotten four of those containers of sauce to go on your tenders. The containers being half full was ridiculous. You already didn’t get enough to begin with. I ate one chicken tender and my container of sauce was already empty. At this point I just closed the container and told my fiance that I would just eat it at the house because I didn’t want to eat it dry. We had two drinks that were $3 a piece and after ice and liquid it may have been 8 ounces. I was also supposed to receive a thing of blue cheese and a piece of celery. I didn’t get either one. Now on to my fiance’s meal. She had a salad with steak and some cold sweet potato fries draped across the top. The salad was of good size and the container of ranch she got was the same as mine (very small / half full). At this point I was very disappointed and upset because of how much we paid for this meal. I normally do not give bad reviews to places that I eat. I have been reviewing food for almost 3 years with Google. Out of the hundreds of places I’ve eaten I can count on two hands the bad reviews I’ve given. Things are already expensive enough nowadays so it shouldn’t be too much to ask to get what you paid for. I can’t speak for my fiance but I will say the quality of my food was just like buying frozen tenders and tots from Walmart. The only difference is I would have made them a lot better. I do know that my fiance only ate half of her salad because there wasn’t enough dressing to finish it. Needless to say I will not be returning to this place.

Great spot, incredibly misleading menu. My super smash burger was delicious, but the tunnel vision tots ruined my experience – there is bacon in the queso. I do not eat pork under any circumstances—-& the menu does not list pork or bacon or meat at all as an ingredient, I only noticed half way through my meal. I am mortified. But bc there was already a misunderstanding (no fault to staff) about a burger situation, I don’t want to bring up the pork. Owners: get it together. “Add choice of protein” implies there is none otherwise.

Yesterday we attended an event at Clever that was part of Red Bank Porchfest, and we were disappointed with the support (or lack thereof) displayed by management and/or ownership for the staff. Even as a visitor to Red Bank, I knew about Porchfest for some weeks. However, it seemed to catch the staff off guard. I got the impression that the two gals working the bar, who were sweet and trying their best and doing a darn good job, were very new to the job. If the owner or management knew this event was coming up, why would they only schedule two new employees to work the bar? Why weren’t they there themselves, jumping in to help? The kitchen also seemed to be struggling- I ordered food and had to leave before ever getting it, as did several others. It’s a shame that they were taking donations for the food bank but somehow managed to waste that much food. Again, I do not AT ALL blame the staff, who were really doing a great job despite the circumstances. Everyone was very kind and seemed to keep a cool head under a great deal of pressure. I just know that any owner who actually cared about their business would be there, making sure things ran smoothly and any manager worth their salt would be back behind the grill or the bar, helping out as much as they could. AND/OR either the owner or manager should be interfacing with the influx of customers, trying to smooth over the tremendously long wait times, at the very least. It is just plain disrespectful to your staff to fail to set them up for success on what was clearly going to be a very busy day.

Just left the establishment, so this is a fresh review. The food here is great, but you guys have got to improve your customer service. My buddy and I were not warned that we’d have to wait almost an hour for our food. You could have at least offered us something for our wait. To add insult to injury, we ordered the same items and the same time and still got our food 15 minutes apart. Also, the amount of tots we got with our burgers was inadequate for what we paid. The whole experience really soured our night.

I like to find new spots for Sunday lunch and I’m glad I chose Clever Alehouse. The service was friendly and quick. I got the Kim-Cheesesteak and it was delicious, can’t wait to have my leftovers for lunch tomorrow (generous portions). We also had the Chili Queso with meat and it was fantastic. They had a variety of seating options inside and out. Looks like it would be a fun place for hanging out with friends.

So I tried this spot during Taco Week and wow!! I’m already plotting my return. The five spice pork belly taco was tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. It was topped with kimchi sauce, hot honey and yaki herbs. And those sweet potato fries with queso? Dangerous in the best way. I could eat this combo every week and never get tired of it.

Food was delicious, & Kayla was delightful. The only problem we had was we were told that during Happy Hour, draft beers were $4, but on our bill they were $8 each. When we asked, she explained that the $4 HH beers applied only to one light lager that we didn’t order. Oops! But we’d definitely go back & order that Kim-cheese steak again!
