I was super impressed with the menu — there were so many things I wanted to try! I started with the Philly cheesesteak, one of my all-time favorite meals, and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely delicious and exceeded my expectations.
I was so impressed with our meal that I couldn’t help myself — I even ordered one of their pizzas to go! Everything we had was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared.
If you’re looking for a great place to eat and want amazing food, you should definitely give them a try. You won’t be disappointed!

I purchased a Nigerian sub from this establishment. The roll was stale, old, etc. It fell apart when handling it. I have been a customer for over 15 years. When I called the store to express my concern with the quality, I spoke with the manager. I believe she said her name is Mel. She was very unprofessional in handling the complaint. When talking with her, she would constantly overtalk me with a negative attitude when I was trying to explain the complaint. Very rude. She hung up the phone on me. I also asked to speak to the owner about the policy that is in place for serving food, which is unacceptable. The manager seemed annoyed that I said the sub was unacceptable. I spoke to her in a normal voice volume and she constantly overtalked me after I listened to her. Is this your establishment’s policy on how to treat loyal customers?

Mouth watering, cheesy, soft fresh baked bread, tender meat, & lots of cheese. Wow. 100/10 recommend if you’re looking for a solid cheesesteak.

The Delaware Valley area is definitely a crowded market when it comes to cheesesteaks. Yes, there are the tourist trap locations but some of the best cheesesteaks come from more local establishments and Claymont Steak Shop is one of those places. They have a couple locations in Delaware, but it feels very much like a neighborhood restaurant. The decor is simple, but I like the feel that his is a neighborhood restaurant. There’s a cooler with grab-and-go desserts and chips, locals get takeout and you can watch some sports while you’re waiting.
The service here is pretty good though you don’t quite get the full restaurant service as ordering is down either via the counter or on a self-serve kiosk but they do make sure you get your food nice and fresh and the service staff is friendly.
Yes, Claymont STEAK Shop serves cheesesteaks, but they have such a diverse menu there’s plenty of variety. They serve pizzas, grinders, burgers, stromboli, there’s a good variety of items to choose from. They also have baskets of fries and you can even get Old Bay fries, too. One of the things I really like is that you can customize your cheesesteaks; you don’t have to be bound to the “Cheeze Whiz wit” routine and have provolone as your cheese or add peppers.
While I cannot say these are the best cheesesteaks in the world, but Claymont’s are really good. They come in three to four sizes and they stuff those steak rolls with plenty of beef (or chicken, they have chicken cheesesteaks, too) and whatever toppings or cheese you like. The beef is tender and you get a good mouthful of flavor and they are filling.
Their pizzas are also pretty tasty as well. They are baked well and have a good selection of toppings. The breadsticks are pretty decent as well and they will wrap them in foil to make sure they are nice and hot and ready for you to enjoy.
While Claymont might not be known cross-country for their cheesesteaks, this is definitely a great neighborhood restaurant to stop at for a cheesesteak…or a pizza.

I had a friend visiting Philly from NC and she wanted a cheesesteak. We were near Claymont and we stopped in. I hadn’t been there in years but the cheesesteaks were still as good as I remembered! I had a mini chicken cheesesteak with spinach, mushrooms and onions and my friend had a regular cheesesteak. I also had an order of naked wings, which were cooked well also.
I appreciate that they offer different sizes of cheesesteaks and have a great selection of other items as well. The service was very good. The dining room was a little messy on some tables but we got ours to go.
I highly recommend stopping by.

Spoke to the manager and let her know in a polite way that the food was not done good fries were cold and steak was cold and also let her know that it made my boyfriend sick. The manager got mad and hung up the phone on me and told me to go and find the doctors letter stating that my boyfriend was sick in order to get my money back. Very rude and unprofessional very upset about this. Don’t come here if you don’t want to be treated like trash. I will never eat here again. Food is not done good at all. Smh !

This WAS my go-to spot for Philly and chicken cheesesteaks. The chicken cheesesteaks were at one time unique to Claymont and tasted pretty good years ago. But now I have to ask… Where did the cheese go??? There is significantly less cheese in the sandwiches. Customers have been noticing theyre getting cheap on the cheese wiz. Times are tough but c’mon…

Claymont Steak Shop never disappoints! The cheesesteaks are packed with flavor and always made fresh, and the portions are huge for the price. The menu has something for everyone, but the steaks and subs are definitely the stars. Service is always quick and friendly, whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout. It’s easily one of the best spots around for a great meal. Highly recommend if you’re craving a real Philly-style cheesesteak!

This is one of our favorite places to come to while in Claymont. My wife and I came across this lovely establishment in 2018, we were in town to look at a wedding venue, The Waterfall, right up the street. Around our anniversary we always drive up from Baltimore and stop in for a bite to eat. This place is special to Us.

Quoted 15-20, walked out at 33. It was dark outside neons not lit & my pet peeve visible taped signs on almost every door, window. Inside was dusty, cobwebs hanging off the awards, plaques, ceiling. $20+ for a light sub & luke warm mozzarella sticks. No flavor, chunky-seeded marinara (not my fave). Burger seemed to be decent quality but was cooked hard, no seasoning, no lettuce & light mayo made for a dry cheeseburger sub. Was disappointed.
