I’ve always loved Claxton fruit cakes and buy them at Krogers. But the last 2 years I’ve been blessed by a special friend, that has ordered them from the Claxton bakery and shipped them to my house for Christmas. What a wonderful gift!

Claxton Fruit Cakes were always part of my holiday season when I was growing up. I finally got to see where it all started and where it continues to be a family operated business. Paula was very helpful in telling me the story of how her family built the business to what it is today. I look forward to a follow-up visit after September when they will be gearing up for the holiday season.

As a 79 year old fruit cake lover I have been wanting to try the Claxton Fruit Cake companies fruit cake for several years. I bought one finally on Saturday and went home with high expectations. The cake tasted like there was a lot of raw flour in the taste and texture. It was so bad I threw the whole fruit cake out.

This is THE best fruitcake in the universe! I drove down TO Claxton for business one day and Claxton Bakery was right next to the county courthouse. I bought the Clax Snax regular 20 pack and loved them. I ordered another 20 pack for the holidays. One day I’ll try the dark, but that may be a little too rich for my tastes. And buy just a regular fruitcake, not the Snax, but the Snax are great because you can portion your fruitcake consumption wisely throughout the week. Claxton is the Fruitcake Capital of the World for a reason!

I stop in to buy a couple of fresh cakes every time I pass through Claxton. I’ve been doing this since the 90s and only miss out when I travel on the weekends when the storefront is closed. I hear people say Claxton fruitcake isn’t the same as they remember but I disagree. What’s different is their tastebuds which change as they age. I love pecans in my cakes. If you believe Claxton cakes were made without them I’d like to know when because the delicious pecans keep me coming back! I wasn’t fond of the rum soaked version so I can’t say I miss it.

Bought the 3 -1# unit pack from Sam’s for
$10.97. Price was very good, but the fruitcake was tasteless, almost nut-free and not at all what it used to be.
Guess I’ve had bourbon fruitcake & quite frankly, makes Clayton seem bland, and too sweet with its current ingredients vs more nuts. How & why did it get to this ;a disappointment-

2025: IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN! A Christmas tradition since my Grandma passed in 87. She hand made all her fruit cakes with a Caribbean twist. After her death I couldn’t buy a decent fruit cake in stores. Until I discovered CLAXTON while on a trip up in Georgia. BE WARNED! CLAXTON cakes from Amazon suppliers may NOT be FRESH. SO ORDER ONLINE DIRECTLY FROM THE FACTORY! And NOW they have a DARK recipe fruit cake. Sorry Grandma

It’s not the same as in past years. Taste is way off, just tastes like a bunch of chemicals. I’ve eaten them for 54 years, and always enjoyed them, not any more.
