Social Profile:

City Farmhouse encompasses a 3,000 square foot space. It’s Country meets “City Chic”. City Farmhouse combines warmth and hospitality by weaving together multiple social and dining zones. A large forged orbital iron fireplace surrounded by comfy farmhouse seating is the central focal point in the main gathering room of the big house. It casts a warm glow over a large marble swathed bar that anchors the back of the room, and the large farmer’s table on the side provides a great communal spot for larger parties. The main gathering room is the most popular room in the City Farmhouse and it provides a great place for friends and family to gather and meet from early morning, noon, to late night.

Food was great – though some may need salt and pepper. On an evening at less than 10% capacity, the service was definitely slower than I would’ve liked, but the staff were very polite

Very disappointing
We’ve been here several times and used to slow service but
Not really sure what’s going on at this place.
Supposed to be a higher end restaurant. Or at least they want to be with their prices.
Quality is less than a cheap chain.
Calamari appetizer was small and mostly filled with peppers.
What’s supposed to be an 18 oz ribeye steak is what I was told – ends up being a 1/4 inch piece of not sure what. Asked for Med Rare but that’s obviously not possible when such a small thin piece of meat is served. For $58. Ordered a seared scallop dinner to take home for my partner. As you can see – again less than desirable.
I asked to see a manager and when he came out
I asked if this was acceptable.
He said “ yes and what would I like him to do about it – that’s what it’s supposed to be” totally unconcerned lol
Said he would take the scallop dinner off the check and take it back – after waiting so long for a meal and to take home another – now I had to go somewhere else and order more food at 8pm. Service is less than adequate, slow, and not very professional. But it’s been that way forever.
Also prices have gone up from what is posted online menus vs actual price charged at location

My coworker and I chose to have dinner here during a recent trip and it was the best meal we had in Portland. I had fish and chips, and he had a veggie burger. We were both very satisfied with our meals.

For the other positive reviews, City Farmhouse Kitchen and Bar was honestly really underwhelming. There was only one waitress and it was very clearly understaffed. The food was also on the higher end price wise for food that has no other descriptors other than painfully average. The haddock tacos were insanely dry and one would expect a location with their own pizza oven on display to make something worthwhile. But ultimately the pizza only had a nice cheese pull to show for it and nothing else. I will say their pasta are their best options and weren’t half bad. The great design and atmosphere of the restaurant was heavily held back by the food quality.

Wow! One of the best meals we’ve ever had. Crab crusted haddock was incredible. Mussels in ground mustard broth were so good. The Blueberry glazed Salmon salad was addictive. Staff worked as a great team.
Some say its weird that it’s in a hotel. But. It’s right at the front door and so worth it.

I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant on the evening of February 8 and left devastated by what I experienced: overt, personal racism from staff that turned a joyful night into a humiliating, painful memory. The manager on the night shift and a waitress named Lillian treated my party so poorly that we felt unwelcome, unsafe, and erased from the space. The manager kept looking annoyed as we asked for service because he was watching the Super Bowl and it was mad about offering the service. It’s like if you don’t want to do your job then why come the trading the way they treat the people is so unfair and this needs to be studied and discussed by the management and find social trust cause it’s gonna be bad for business.

I’m confused I expected this to be farm to table it’s not. It says hand made pasta but none of those pastas were made from scratch which reminded me of an episode of Gordon ramsey kitchen rescue because it was a classic lie says hand made yet when we asked the staff they said it was not very disappointing and misleading. The pasta was gummy and drenched in sauce no flavor. I upgraded to truffle fries for an extra two dollars which was the worst two dollars ever it was floppy mushy not cooked fries no flavor definitely frozen. This place is not what it seems avoid at all cost. I didn’t even care to say any true feedback to wait staff I just wanted to get away asap the atmosphere is like hotel like I’m talking sitting at a table looking at guests coming in and out of an automatic door. Worst view worst atmosphere this place needs Gordon Ramsey to help them it sucks and was expensive but not fresh or carefully thought out food just bad. The pictures are misleading the moss focal wall is falling in disrepair. Fireplace dusty with rings of past drinks they use napkins to level tables. I felt like the staff was nice and accommodating but there are some real problems with the food here.

Update 2/19/2023

The service was alright. The food has gone downhill. I got the avocado toast again and there was barely any avocado on the toast. The tomatoes were cold on top and the egg came out runny. The server never asked me how I wanted the eggs cooked, so remember to tell them when you order this. My coffee came after my breakfast arrived. My mom’s homefries were luke warm. Honestly, they need more servers, even the hostess has to buss the tables.

Update 7/17/2022:

I took my mom here a few weeks ago and we had a great time. But today, they were busy and tried to sit us at a dirty table. The table mats weren’t cleaned and the table was sticky and the floor was full of bread under our feet. What happened to COVID clean? The manager came over and re-sat us at another table, more appropriate. We had a seasoned server (Christin?) she she was delightful. We even caught a glimpse of the chef as he was running the food to the tables to help out. Nice touch. I asked for an egg a little more cooked than OM but not quite OH and they did an excellent job. Maybe that should be called OMH .

I keep trying to call for reservations and no-one answered all day, so I decided to just go for when they opened (430pm) and glad I did. Right after I walked in, so did everyone else. It got busy fast. I say at the bar at the most squeekiest stool ever – someone bring the WD-40! Other than that, I met a veteran who just retired from the Army as a Colonel and he’s traveling all over. Great conversation and friendly staff. Hopefully I’ll get to try brunch before I leave next month.

My family and I were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant we were expecting a regular underwhelming hotel restaurant but this visit was far far from that. We ordered The farmers toast the calamari two steaks and pasta with meatballs. The food, from beginning to end was fresh and delicious. Our least favorite dish was the pasta and meatballs but everything else especially the appetizers, were very delicious. Along with 4 cocktail drinks. And for dessert the s’mores martini and crème brûlée. The Field and Farm burger, not pictured, was also delicious. Ribeye with vegetable hash and purée was my personal favorite! Thank you to this restaurant! I would drive from Boston just to eat here again and again!

Stayed overnight at the hotel. Stopped in for a drink and a salad to go to take back to my room. The bar area and dining was very nice and comfortable – same as the bar. they had what I wanted – salad was excellent. It was a small wedge and perfect had olives and roasted peppers and I’m not sure what cheese was but it was very good. Busy bar but very good service.
