Maybe I’m spoiled from eating Texas BBQ for so many years. This just didn’t do it for me. I had the 3-meat platter with brisket, pulled pork and sausage with a side of fries and green beans.

The brisket was very mid. Not much smoke ring or flavor. Even though I was served a “fatty” cut which I prefer, it was on the tough side.

The pulled pork was good and tender, but lacking any smoke flavor. Pouring some vinegar sauce on it definitely helped.

The sausage was good. Had a nice snap to it and a good peppery flavor.

Green beans were, well green beans. The fresh-cut fries were to star of the show! And the sweet tea was really good.

A really strong 3 stars, just can’t give it the 4th.

I’d go 4.5 stars. Brisket and pork were delicious. The corn pudding and baked beans were also delicious. Good sweet tea as well.

This restaurant is well staffed with friendly & helpful employees. Additionally, it is much more charming inside than I’d have expected from the plain exterior. However, as a southerner, the sides at a BBQ place are as important to me as the entrées. We didn’t care for any of the sides at all. The mac n cheese was particularly disappointing. Definitely had higher expectations…

Came in for lunch on a weekday, they were moderately busy around noon’ish, but we didn’t wait long to place our orders. They have a very appetizing menu, with salads, sandwiches, and then meat & side platters. I opted for their 2 meat platter to try their brisket and sausage.

The sausage was rather basic, not very smokey. Tasted like it was seasoned with black pepper and not a lot more. The casing was also on the rubbery side, not very crispy. The brisket’s flavor was decent, though not very smokey also. I did see that a new brisket was brought up while they were preparing our orders and I suspect I got the last of the previous one which might have been a little dried out by the time it was sliced for me. I also tried a single rib – very disappointing. Almost had the texture of being baked or made in some form other than smoking and then maybe finished with smoke. Lots of fat and not much meat on it.

For sides, I tried their corn bread, cole slaw, and baked beans. The baked beans had some meat in them, but were very sweet and not very spiced in flavor. I added jalapeños to them which spiked them up nicely. Their cole slaw was excellent. Exactly how I prefer it, which is on the basic side with fresh ingredients. Not overly saucy and definitely perfectly seasoned. Their corn bread was OK, but the Texas toast they give with the meal was so much better.

Their sauces were ok. I tried all of them and found that their NC vinegar sauce packed the most flavor, while I couldn’t tell which was their “brush fire” spicy sauce, as the spice level seemed the same as the others.

Overall, I probably should have ordered one of their appetizing-looking sandwiches, as I’m sure all the ingredients come together better like that rather than trying them individually. But I wasn’t tasting much smoke in the items I tried.

Bbq has gotten way to expensive and because of it our area has little to no options. We wanted to celebrate a new car purchase with something different than the same old. We did not get racks of ribs or anything but the food was very good and reasonably priced. We got a brisket sandwich fries hush puppies corn bread and salad plus drinks for around 30 bucks. The fries and corn bread were my favorite. Brisket sandwich was good but nit the best I’ve had. With that said I’d be happy to return and order it again and again. Hush puppies were about a 6 out of 10. Pretty good but not the best I’ve had. Food was prepared correctly and hit. Atmosphere was decent, not load or anything and was pretty clean. They offer your choice of sauces to compliment each meal as you like. The traditional sauce is very good, sweet baby rays tasting, but my favorite was their spicy bbq. Great flavor with just a little kick not to over power the food but to compliment it. No complaints, will return for another round or two down the road and see if they are consistent or could get that 5th star from me.

Being I’m from Pittsburgh we do not have City BBQ there. So glad we made decision to have lunch. Kim was so friendly and made sure our needs were met. The food was excellent, service was great and the variety of sauces were very tasty. If ever traveling or living in Florence, Kentucky I high recommend you try this place out. You won’t be disappointed.

I love this place. Ordering is always a little confusing and it seems like they run out of things a little too often. Cook more food! It’s amazing though. Oddly, one of my favorite things they deserve is their collards. There’s literally nothing bad on the menu.
