Citizen Kane’s in Kirkwood feels like you just walked into a Victorian mansion where dinner is taken very seriously.
I ordered the ribeye, and let me tell you, this wasn’t some “good job, chef” situation. This was a pause-mid-sentence, stare-at-the-plate kind of ribeye. Perfect crust, juicy all the way through, seasoned like somebody in that kitchen has pride in their ancestors. Every bite felt intentional.
And my girl? She ordered the pork chops.
When I say thick, I mean THICK thick. These were not grocery store, Tuesday night pork chops. These were heavyweight champion pork chops. Juicy, perfectly cooked, seasoned just right. The kind of chop that makes you nod slowly like you’re approving a major business decision.
The sides weren’t just filler either. Everything came out hot, balanced, and looking like it understood the assignment.
The vibe is candlelight, cozy rooms, and that calm, classy energy where you automatically sit up straighter in your chair. It’s fancy without being uncomfortable.
Citizen Kane’s doesn’t yell for attention. It quietly delivers elite food and lets you figure it out for yourself.
Five stars. We left full, impressed, and slightly protective of our leftovers. ️

What a disappointment. Had hoped for a nice dinner but decided this was our last visit. We felt pressure to order quickly while not having time to read the menu. The tenderloin medallions were WAY undercooked and drenched in sauce. So much we had to scrape the sauce off before uncovering the steak, and I use that term lightly. What were advertised as medallions, I can only describe as ragged bits of undercooked meat. Worse yet, it wasn’t the only meal at our table that had issues. By the time we had an employee quickly walk by our table, it was impossible to stop them. The meat was so undercooked, the blood was seeping into the sauce which resulted in a horrible color across the plate. Definitely not the most appetizing look. The check was brought to the table without being offered dessert or coffee. What happened to the owners who cared about the customers because they certainly work there now.

I tried to celebrate Chinese Valentine’s Day with my fiancé and found this steakhouse on Reddit. People recommended it, so I had high expectations. However, I felt that the steakhouse was overpriced.
When I received the steak, it was not cooked to my desired medium-rare in the center, so I had to return it. After reheating, it was overcooked. The fried onion was also terrible. Even frozen onion rings are better than what I got here.

If you love the taste of pure, unadulterated steak, this is absolutely the place for you! Citizen Kane’s does steak better than anyone else. To the date, it is still the best steak my husband and I have had in St. Louis. My husband got the NY strip, while I got the salmon and tenderloin special. Both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. We also got the appetizer platter, but quite honestly, it wasn’t anything special. Same goes for the desserts, we got the chocolate chip cheesecake and the chocolate cake. We both preferred the chocolate cake. Overall, would go again just for the steak itself, but would probably skip appetizers and possibly dessert. However, the service was impeccable & staff was very attentive. Would recommend this place to any steak connoisseur in STL.

Place is cozy but can be noisy. Maybe some background music will help. Service was excellent. I ordered the steak medallion as medium well but got well done I think. My wife’s Ribeye was almost perfect except it came out too charred for our taste but at least the inside was as she ordered. With only a few dollar difference I would get the Ribeye for the portion. It did not come with a sauce the medallion did. The burgundy peppercorn and mushroom sauce was delish. We were served bread and butter while waiting. We came late so there is enough parking. I’ts not a big place I would call ahead to reserve.

1st off, William – our server – was top notch! If you are reading this William, thank you so much for making our 26 yr metchaversary the best metchaversary yet! In a super close 2nd off, our food was spot on!! Kitchen, thank you for rockin’ it out!! I got the filet and my husband got the ribeye. We split the steaks and they were spot on medium rare. How they get that thick of steaks so perfectly seasoned and cooked is beyond me but they were perfect!! We have been going to Citizen Kane’s when we can for 26 yrs (yes, our 1st real date together was here 26 yrs ago) and it’s always been amazing but this time was the best yet. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better they outdid themselves again! I had the carrot cake and he had chocolate chip cheesecake. It was our 1st time getting dessert and we’re kicking ourselves for never getting the desserts before. The carrot cake was warm and a had the creamiest cream cheese icing that melted in my mouth. I also have to recommend their signature Manhattan if you like a great drink to compliment your meal. Hands down, best steak, drinks, & dessert in StL Metro!!

We were present late at night, so that may have influenced the experience. Customer service was superb. The ambiance was also great! The food was really good.
Recommend for a good date night/anniversary celebration. Dinner with friends to talk business or just a fancy treat. It’ll be worth your penny.

This is definitely a neighborhood regulars type of place. After reading such great reviews, pretty disappointed. It’s a good deal with salad or soup and a side included but the filet mignon was severely lacking flavor. The service was good but we were constantly interrupted for water refills and asking if needed a box yet. They also were not sure how to use opentable rewards which was disappointing since connected to reservation.
