I liked the fact that it was a smaller venue, a bit more intimate.
We were a big group, so the restaurant had designed a set menu for us. It allowed us to sample the menu. It was family style and nicely presented.
The portions were humongous! I think most of the dishes were barely touched by all of us, which is a shame because it was great food and it was sad to see it go to waste.
The highlight for me was the penne with a vodka sauce. I also had a very nice cannolo at the end of the meal.
Overall, it was a very nice dinner.
I had the radiatore as an entree which was a robust serving with tender short rib and a nice dollop of ricotta.
Dean, the owner, is a Long Island legend. Definitely worth a visit.
***update***
I spoke with the owner: DEAN CIRELLA on the phone and told him I would bring the pictured dish back to the restaurant so he can show it to his chef. When I got there his staff informed me he was on the phone. After waiting for a while his staff again said DEAN CIRELLA won’t be available to talk to me. I left this uncooked veal dish with his workers and left.
Owner of this restaurant is a coward!!!
The staff were all very friendly to us upon entering. We were sat quickly with no reservation, and the waitress in training was excellent. The beer selection was decent, and they had plenty of mixed drinks and wine as well.
We skipped appetizers this time, although they did have some nice items on the menu. We split the capellini dello and the brasato di manzo. Both excellent, couldn’t choose a favorite. The brasato di manzo had just the right amount of sauce, and everything went together well. The spinach was cooked perfectly, the gnocchi was firm but not undercooked, and the short rib just melted in your mouth. The capellini dello came together very well. The tender eggplant in the pasta had such a great flavor and texture. The dish itself was large, and we ended up taking a lot home.
They also had sushi, which I was skeptical about at first, but after watching dish after dish come out, I wouldn’t mind trying some next time. Looked great.
Food was outstanding- just got back from Italy so I wasn’t expecting to be wow’d but happily to write this 5 star review .
Will definitely be back soon for authentic Italian food.
