The rest, however, fell short. The menu was uninspiring and it took some effort to find an appealing option. The food (the risotto) arrived looking unappetizing, with chunks of beef that seemed more like stew meat, and stringy mushrooms. The flavor and texture was not any better. For the premium prices on the menu, I expected dishes with finesse, depth, and some element of surprise. Instead, everything felt somewhat flat and unremarkable. It wasn’t for lack of effort—the team clearly tried—but the execution simply didn’t meet the expectations set by the image that they market.
As far as ambience, Circo struggles to create anything much beyond the feel of the re-purposed sport bar in a strip mall that it is. There’s little in the way of atmosphere or design (though some effort was made) that transports you or makes the experience feel special. The space itself needs a serious overhaul to get the look that they are going for.
In the end, Faith’s excellent service carried the evening, but the food and overall environment didn’t justify the cost. Circo clearly had high aspirations, but unfortunately it hasn’t yet found an identity that matches.
(Please excuse the few bites taken before pictures were. The phone did not eat first.)
The only thing I didn’t like about it is the location. I want it to be so much closer to central Omaha so I could visit again easier! Coming from Carter Lake area makes for quite the drive.
The food itself was also pretty good! The focaccia and honey ricotta was amazing! My husband didn’t love his calamari but he brought it home to give to his friend who will finish it. I went specifically because I was in the mood for carbonara. If you’ve had the carbonara from Disney, this is what I was craving lol. But that’s the only carbonara I’ve had so I’m not sure how it is at most places to compare it to. At Circo it was pretty good but after about half of it I had it boxed up to eat later. It basically felt like a Mac n cheese with pancetta. It gets pretty one note after awhile and I wish I had something like a side to eat with it for some difference on my palette. My husband enjoyed his steak in lobster sauce with the scallops. He didn’t like the texture of the scallops much but finished them.
I finished the meal off with Creme brulee which was also very good. We will be back but we’ll try something different next time. Overall though a pretty good place to dine!
One thing though that concerned me was I couldn’t tell if my water glass was dirty. After drinking some of it I looked closer at the glass and it looked like stuff was stuck to the inside so I stopped drinking from it.
