Honestly, this place was an 11/10, no notes. We had the absolute best night.
We did the chefs menu & it absolutely highlighted everything they do. I loved every single course & it was the perfect amount of food. We are also obsessed with the head chef now lol. He brought out nearly every course & would tell us about how they bought their calamari directly from the fishermen or any other cute little story that accompanied the course. I can’t even pick a favourite dish, every one hit it outta the park.
Their sommelier was super knowledgeable & gave us some amazing recommendations & the service was absolutely impeccable. I’ve also never seen staff with such perfectly groomed facial hair, they were all so on point!
Vibes were generally awesome too. So yeah, loved it. Go here
The eel tart was amazing, but the goat cheese eclairs and caviar tin were just so‑so. The wagyu steak was solid.
The duck was benchmark and honestly one of the better duck dishes I have had in Melbourne. It had great flavour, a solid sauce, and was very tender. That said, it felt like a familiar supplier used across other venues, with the sauce doing most of the heavy lifting. I also ordered the Blackmore experience for $159. All three cuts were unique and cooked perfectly medium rare, exactly what you would expect from Blackmore beef if you have had it before. The potatoes that came with the steak were beautifully cooked, smooth inside, and not overly oily.
I would not order the leaf salad again, as it was overly sweet due to the walnuts. The potato gnocchi had a nice creamy texture, but it lacked flavour and came across as a bit bland.
Among the small plates, the calamari stood out with chilli oil and tender squid. The stracciatella was fine but nothing special. The best snack for me was the crumpets with the salmon roll. The tart with the purple topping was average for the price.
Coke Zeros priced around $10 to $12 each made the overall value feel harder to justify. It made me question how much of the pricing was tied to the wine offering rather than the food itself. Especially when I had a meal the day before at around two thirds of the price that delivered better value.
Overall, Circl is a nice space with decent service and some strong dishes, but for the cost, the food did not fully justify the spend for me.
Amazing service, with a special mention to Carolina, and such a warm welcome. Great choice of wines. Excellent food. Thank you for having us tonight. We had had a great experience and will definitely be back !
Their wine list resembles a tome it’s so extensive. A good spot for a wine connoisseur to enjoy.
We ordered the tuna, smoked eel tart and calamari as entrees. The tuna was refreshing and the eel tart was crunchy and tasty. The calamari was a flavour bomb and we ordered some sourdough bread to mop up the plate!
The main was the smaller serving size of the duck and the larger serving size of the tri-tip wagyu. The duck was well prepared and cooked to perfection. So was the wagyu, medium rare with hot mustard, delicious.
We would love to try their dessert but unfortunately we just couldn’t fit it any more food. This gives us an excuse to come back to Circl again!
We ordered the smoked eel tart, calamari, pork loin (I think?), and duck. I’m usually not a fan of pork, but the pork dish really surprised me — it was incredibly tender, and the sauce had great depth of flavor. The duck was another standout: perfectly cooked and beautifully rare. My only minor gripe was the herb-crusted skin; I’m just not a big fan of herbs and spices in general.
All in all, it was a great experience and a memorable night out.
