Lovely little restaurant tucked in a strip mall, which also has a grocery store by the same name. We like to pop in here for some great that don’t bust your pocket. Our server this time ( all the time) around was a super sweet lady offering us some Concha and Rosca de Reyes that had muñecos in them. Their dinner plates come with lots of food as well. Nice and quiet with a bar as well. Tacos are $1.75 on Tuesdays.

Saw a rave review in a FB group yesterday and felt like it was worth trying Cinco De Mayo #2 for dinner tonight.
HOLY SMOKES are we impressed!
Fresh pico de gallo served with warm chips is complimentary when dining in. INCREDIBLY flavorful carne asada steak as well as the rice & beans. Meat seemed to be of a high grade with no gristly bits (those stringy weird meat chunks).
Also highly impressed with the Chile Relleno (ordered with no tomato sauce and crema on the side). They were crisp on the outside and cheesy on the inside. One was EXTRA large. I haven’t liked a Chile relleno in Waukesha county since Casa Del Rio/Ole was around! Cinco De Mayo just changed all that for me tonight. My “fussy” order was executed perfectly too.
Did I mention the rice was super flavorful and the taco meat? Seriously, every component of our meal was packed with delicious flavor!
We arrived just before 7:30pm and were the only diners. 8pm close (the doors indicate 10pm) but we were not rushed out in any way.
We have a new favorite and we WILL be back. I encourage anyone to try this place out for an incredible meal!

We live right around the corner and saw this place on a Waukesha Eats Facebook group. Tried it out and WOW. It is now our go-to Mexican food place! Highly recommend the following…
1️⃣Order their delicious and crispy steak (or chicken!) Chimichangas with a Horchata on the side (we usually do to-go).
2️⃣While you wait, walk two doors down to the left into the Mexican market and buy fresh bakery. Anything strawberry or cheese filled is to die for! Plus HUGE churros.
3️⃣Walk back over, and your meal will be almost ready.
You won’t regret it! All together we usually spend $25-$30 for two adults and a toddler. Can’t beat it!

Hidden gem! My cousin is visiting us in Waukesha and she found this place. Food was amazing, good selection for my family with some picky eaters.
Cousin says rice and beans are fire, and she liked the verde sauce (it was fire too). She got steak taco dinner and she demolished it. Absolutely loved it.
We ordered to go and it was ready in a reasonable time. Inside looked fine.

The chicken enchiladas and tacos were delicious, as well as the horchata which they make themselves. Wonderful experience with our server and all of the staff and the food came out fast. We will definitely be back

The service was very nice for being within an hour to closing time. My wife and I wanted a date and she got tacos. I decided to try a skillet and a couple tacos. The flavor was very good and the portions of the food were great for the price. The chicken had really great flavor and my wife loved her al pastor tacos she had as well.
We will return in the future as the spot used to be one of our favorite spots.

Really friendly and fast service! Table pico had a really good kick to it (i think fresh jalapeños too). Food was delicious and there was plenty left over to bring home.

I have to give credit where it’s due—the waitress who took our order was genuinely friendly, and the place had a lovely, clean vibe inside. I was excited to try their burritos, so I went for two days in a row, sampling both the regular and the Cinco De Mayo Burrito.
Let’s start with the regular burrito. It was as plain. I didn’t mind it much, so I thought, “Why not give the Cinco De Mayo Burrito a whirl?” Big mistake! It was nothing short of runny garbage. Seriously, it looked like it had been through a blender. The chorizo? Flavorless. The meat? Blah. And don’t get me started on the mysterious flood of liquid that oozed out of the burrito.
All in all, I’m sorry to say I can’t recommend this place. Maybe the tacos are better, but honestly, I wouldn’t risk it.
This place deserves the award for the worst burrito I’ve ever had in my life. I adore Mexican food, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I had one that was terrible!

Cinco de Mayo Restaurant located at 131 W Sunset Drive Waukesha is a hidden gem! This new restaurant replaces what was formerly Plaza Family Restaurant and offers fresh made carnitas and tamales daily. I am not aware of any other local establishment doing this. Order a plate and dine in or by the pound at the restaurant or their grocery store right next door. Fresh chips and pico de gallo were brought immediately to our table and were wonderful. The red salsa was excellent and the slightly creamy salsa verde was outstanding. Both were bold and flavorful and had the perfect amount of heat for both of us. My wife ordered the steak chimichangas which were very good. They were served with beans, rice and a small salad. I ordered the carnitas plate which included 1# of meat, fresh cilantro and onions and 8 tortillas. The well seasoned pork would have been a standout on it’s own but the creamy salsa verde took it to the next level. It would be worth returning for this dish alone however we look forward to trying their other offerings as well as their breakfast. Service was excellent and efficient. Prices are reasonable and portions are huge. It was nice to see soft drinks starting at $3 and beers starting at $3.50. I have seen them nearly double this at other local places. We all know and love our well established Mexican restaurants in town but make room for this one. I believe it is a new contender!

I tried the shrimp chimichanga based on a prior good review. They were right! These chimichangas were so good. I had the dinner so I also got rice and beans. What a great value! We also tried the Chips and Pico and Horchata while we waited for our to go order to be made. The food came up quickly. Everything is fresh and tasted so good. Please support this business if you want to try real Mexican food. The service, food and value is amazing. You won’t be disappointed if you give this place a try.
