We had the opportunity to try Cielo today and WOW! What a great addition to Nexton! Upscale, inventive, delicious. Everything from the food to the service to the aesthetic was perfection. Our order included: a flight of frozen margaritas (do it!), tostones and tacquitos appetizers, Baja tacos and Barria tacos. Oh, and chips with house made salsa and queso. Everything was so good. Our server was Ariana and she was on top of everything, making for an excellent first experience.

My wife and I were on our way to Taco Boy (excellent restaurant) when I saw Cielo and we changed course. We were not disappointed. Think eclectic Mexican cuisine. They have several traditional dishes if you don’t want to be adventurous, but they also have several non-traditional takes on standard Mexican dishes. I usually get carnitas at Mexican restaurants. They have carnitas, but they also have pork shank which is carnitas on a whole new level. Our server seemed to be rather inexperienced and we had some issues, but nothing that would ruin the experience. The atmosphere was incredible as well with every wall covered with different textures. We will be going back. I highly recommend it.

Very well done atmosphere, decorations and service was fast.

Overall the food was good, but not spectacularly great. Birria was missing some depth of flavors, ramen felt like it was instant noodles used, and Torta had too much bread to filling ratio.

The coconut ceviche was the star of the show, but wanted the fish pieces slightly smaller. Some pieces were stringy and chewy and didn’t completely fall apart. Flavors were absolutely perfect though.

Fideo and pork was great, but wish it had more than 4 pieces of pork. Seems very very small portion of meat for an app.

Duck enchiladas were really good, not too fatty, and rice was well buttered and seasoned too, not just plain.

Loved the decor and seating. The perfect place for friends to meet up for dinner. It was our first time, but certainly won’t be our last. Our server was Grace. She was kind and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Cielo is at the top of our short list of restaurants we must return to soon. It was truly an elevated experience.

This place gets a lot of bad reviews that mention El Patron nearby, which is kind of silly, considering that the two places cater to very different people. If you are looking for a refreshed La Hacienda then go to El Patron (nothing bad here, love that place, all the old and tried dishes). If you would like to experience something different in terms of flavor and presentation within the Mexican cuisine – then this is the place! Granted, they need to iron out some issues with servers and hostesess, but they just opened – give them a little break!
The food is fun! The cocktails are smashing, and it doesn’t feel like your friend’s grandma’s house! So give it a try!

We walked in on Sunday afternoon. There barely was any wait. Our server was clearly new and not fully comfortable with the menu, but she was sweet and she did try har dna did all the right things. We had fun here!

Usually I reserve 5 stars for the exceptional combination of service, price and value metrics, but the reviews for this place were so unfair imo, so I decided to give all the fives here.

First time trying out Cielo! Beautiful decor and fun patio area with huge chess pieces. You can tell they are still trying to work out some kinks with hostess and seating but that should improve with time. Our waitress Kate was excellent! Really loved her attentiveness and honesty! Chips were ok but salsa was great and I actually preferred that we didn’t have a ton of chips so I didn’t fill up before our meal. Their chicken is out of this world, hands down, the best I have eaten in this area! We had the mole and airline chicken and both were fall off the bone tender! They have delicious dark mole I have found no where else in Charleston area. Got the margarita sampler then full size coconut lime and a guava one. Really thick and good strength. This is my new go to for Latin food – excellent variety and not just basic “Mexican” food.

I will start by saying that, in all honesty, this is my first time writing a review for a restaurant. I went here with my parents for the very first time thinking the atmosphere was nice and simple, I asked for a table of three and they said they were cleaning one at the moment (didn’t give us a certain time to wait), waited for more then 10 minutes and was noticing other people were being seated (people who came before us) and that’s when I started getting a little irritated until I was finally seated after another 3 to 4 minutes, after being seated we were waiting to order our drinks and food and yet again we didn’t get our waiter until 10 to 15 minutes and I was honestly just going to get up and leave, when our waiter finally showed up we ordered our drinks and they got there somewhat fast after that I ordered a Texas Rice that consisted chicken, rice, steak, and cheese, without Shrimp or Bell peppers and it was really bland the only part that was saving the dish was the cheese, my dad got a Quesibirria which was good and did have some flavor to it, my mom on the other hand got a Carne Asada that was well cooked but it was really chewy and hard to swallow and was also bland, our waiter was almost never to be seen and didn’t really check up on us. Overall the pay was 72 dollars which I think is a little reasonable for an authentic place, but I also feel like the price should match the service and food. I feel like this place would do better if the service were better but I will not be coming again. I will start by saying that, in all honesty, this is my first time writing a review for a restaurant. El Cielo Mexican Kitchen & Tequila – Nexton
El Cielo is an upscale Mexican restaurant set in a welcoming, beautiful, and lush green environment that immediately makes a great first impression. The ambiance is elegant yet inviting, making it a lovely spot for a relaxed but refined dining experience.
I highly recommend their cocktails—especially the Virgin Lychee Mia, Campo Caribeño, and Pineapple Habanero, which were all well-crafted and refreshing. The tostones appetizer was exquisite and one of the highlights of our meal.
I ordered the Cielo Bowl, but unfortunately, the portion was noticeably smaller compared to similar dishes we’ve had elsewhere, which was a bit unusual. The pulpo parrillado definitely caught our attention; however, next time I would ask for it to be cooked less (it was slightly burnt) and toned down on the spice to better enjoy the flavors.
My husband ordered the Bandeja Paisa, which was priced at $30 and, as Colombians, we felt it did not meet authentic expectations for that dish, especially considering the cost.
Overall, El Cielo offers a beautiful setting, creative drinks, and some standout items, but there is room for improvement in portion consistency, preparation, and value for certain dishes. With a few adjustments, this restaurant has strong potential to truly shine in the Nexton dining scene.

My wife and I stopped by for drinks and appetizers, and our first impression was very positive. The décor and atmosphere are excellent—open, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. It’s easily the nicest-looking Mexican restaurant in Summerville.
We sat at the bar and were given menus, though it took a bit longer than expected for someone to take our drink order. My wife ordered the Berry Basil cocktail, and I had a large draft beer. Both drinks were well made—her cocktail was flavorful, and my beer was perfectly cold.
Service continued to be slow when it came time to order food. We started with the crispy cauliflower appetizer, which was just okay. A couple sitting next to us ordered the same dish and also felt it was bland.
We had some difficulty getting attention to place another order, despite three bartenders working who didn’t seem very engaged with guests. Eventually, we ordered another Berry Basil cocktail and the steak nachos. When my wife received her second drink, it was missing the basil and berries, and she had to flag down the bartender to have it corrected. The steak nachos, however, were very good and were the highlight of the food.
When the bill arrived, we noticed an extra drink had been added that we didn’t order—fortunately, we caught it before paying.
Overall, the atmosphere and drinks are strong, but the service needs improvement. Since the restaurant just opened, we’re hopeful these issues can be resolved with more training. We plan to give it another try because we truly enjoyed the ambiance.

Love the ambiance and gorgeous decor at Cielo! Menus are wonky, hard to look at and hold open as they are binded super tight and funky. Fun cocktails, interesting and delicious flavor profiles for small bites and entrees, all were very very good! As for the interpreted typical chips and salsa upon arrival, the broken up “one” tostada shell in the raw beans bowl is kind of out of pocket, suggest breaking up at least 2-4 shells for a decent amount of table chips. Service was friendly, and made good suggestions. Clean establishment, will be back!
