The portions are large. Depending on how hungry you are, two people can share a pasta dish.
Service was fast and friendly. The owner came by to check on us personally several times. Ciccia has an elegant yet inviting atmosphere- it felt like we were dining in a happy Italian home.
This was the perfect Christmas Eve meal! I highly recommend Ciccia for your next upscale dinner, or if you just want some delicious comfort food.
We kicked things off with the beet and burrata salad. “It’s just salad,” I told myself. Wrong. It was exceptional. Creamy burrata, perfectly balanced beets, and enough flavor to make you reconsider ever ordering a side Caesar again. The tuna tartare? Ridiculously fresh. The kind of fresh where you assume someone in the back is still wearing waders.
For mains, we went with the sombreri and the fusilli Ferrero arrabbiata with spicy soppressata. Absolute heat. The pasta was cooked exactly how it’s supposed to be, not Midwest “close enough” al dente. The arrabbiata had real spice, not the polite kind. The soppressata brought that perfect kick without punching you in the face. Sophisticated spice. Grown up spice.
Dessert was not optional. Pistachio Nutella cake that felt illegal. And the tiramisu? Light, classic, flawless. No gimmicks. Just execution.
This place is banging. Like, casually-Michelin-worthy banging. If they don’t have a star, someone in France needs to check their clipboard. Ciccia Osteria isn’t playing around. It’s elite Italian without the ego, and I will absolutely be back pretending I know wine pairings
this is a no frills spot that really captures home cooked Italian food. dishes were simple, well done, and satisfying. found prices and portion sizes are very reasonable. we brought our own bottle of wine and corkage was only $20! generous complimentary basket of focaccia for the table as well. only regret was over ordering on the mains, leaving us no room for dessert!
We paired it all with a Montepulciano blend that was spot on. A huge thanks to Mario, the owner, for being such a gracious host and making the night special.
This is a must-visit in San Diego!
We ordered the lasagna and a seafood pasta. The lasagna was just okay, not particularly flavorful, but the bigger disappointment was the seafood pasta. The pasta was sticking together, which made it heavy and a little difficult to enjoy. For a dish that should feel fresh and vibrant with seafood, it just didn’t come across that way. Maybe it was just an off day in the kitchen, but it left me a bit underwhelmed considering the strong reviews this place usually gets.
On the brighter side, dessert really saved the meal. The tiramisu was delicious—creamy, light, and flavorful, exactly what you would hope for in a classic Italian dessert. The restaurant itself was also quite nice: cozy atmosphere, welcoming vibe, and a place where you’d want to sit and relax. The staff were friendly and attentive, which I really appreciated.
Overall, while I was disappointed with the main dishes, I don’t want to completely rule this place out. With so many great reviews, I feel like maybe I just caught it on a bad day. I might consider giving it another try in the future, but for now, my first impression didn’t fully live up to the hype.
