A Hidden Gem With Heart – Chuy’s Baja Grill, Simi West
Review by Aaron G Beebe owner of GonnaHappen
I visited Chuy’s Baja Grill in Simi West with my friend Monica, and the experience was unforgettable for reasons far beyond the food. Monica spent over 20 years as a well-known Hollywood publicist, and back when I was just getting started she introduced me to so many incredible artists — Armored Saint, L.A. Guns, members of Scorpions, NAMM events, red carpets, Safe Passage, and countless musicians and industry people. She’s opened doors for me with so many people for me.
Recently, Monica was diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s been a tough time, and we decided to go out for a simple meal to enjoy a moment together. Chuy’s treated us with so much kindness and warmth that it honestly meant more than they know.
The food was fantastic — fresh, flavorful, and way above what you expect from a “hidden gem.” The atmosphere was relaxed, the service was genuine, and everything just felt comfortable. For Monica, it was a much-needed break. For me, it was a reminder of how important friendships are and how much a good meal and good people can lift someone’s spirit.
Thank you, Chuy’s Baja Grill, for giving us such a beautiful experience during a difficult time. We’ll definitely be back.

They often have Mosaic play live for several hours on Saturday nights.
Can’t get your own chips anymore, and the salsa bar doesn’t indicate anything about the different options (spice level, ingredients, etc.)
Birria tacos were good, nachos were good too.
While we were eating, a couple came inside with their two dogs. Both dogs were being fed food from the table, the small one sat in the booth, and the larger of the two dogs was under the table but shook multiple times as we watched all the hair fly off it’s back. They should have been asked to sit on the patio. Thank goodness we were basically done eating at that point.
Then trying to close out, the cashier was having a hard time calculating how to break a large bill. It took a while and she had to be told how to break it up and then how much to give back.
Staff were very nice and attentive but I don’t know if we’ll be back unless the cleanliness factor is addressed.
