The venue: We went upstairs into a large and beautifully decorated event room, there were several round tables that were neatly laid out and covered in red tablecloths. They had a toilet area and a bar and stairs that led downstairs and outside.
The staff: Staff were quiet and respectful of the event, they gently and respectfully set the tables, moved empty dishes and cutlery and and served the dishes between the very crowded room of people. They timed the dishes perfectly between meals to ensure that people left full and satisfied without the dishes being stuffed into a short and restrictive time frame. The man queuing the songs for karaoke was polite and mellow natured and queued songs happily – he appeared to be joyful that we were having a good time.
The food: The food was abundant in variety and perfectly portioned so each table would have enough. My favourite dishes were the Salt and Chilli Lotus Root, The salt and chilli Tofu and th Crispy Chilli Vegan beef. If it’s not obvious I am a lover of all that is spiced and seasoned and I enjoy food on the slightly saltier side so these were perfect for me. I enjoyed the textures and flavours of most of the dishes but I would highly recommend the ones I mentioned if someone asked me to chose some. Both the rice and noodles complimented the main courses perfectly to the point that I wouldn’t chose one over the other and it would just be dependent on how I feel that day. All vegetables used in the dishes were fresh and flavourful and fitting to that dish. The only dishes that weren’t really for me were the Mo Por Beancurd and the Pan Fried Water Chestnut paste. Neither one was bad, just a miss for me and that would be down to my sensory issues that come with my autism, I would not say to avoid them off of that alone as it’s an individual preference not a bad preparation.
I would highly recommend this venue for big events or parties and for people going for smaller and more intimate meals too as it is beautiful and truly has something for everyone.
This time I sensibly (and uncharacteristically) booked ahead, as it was Chinese New Year. Even though the restaurant was incredibly busy and they had to turn a few people away, the service and food remained absolutely first class.
The food itself was also delicious, thoroughly enjoyed by all of us, even my husband with no allergies
We were there for early dinner and didn’t have a reservation, but realised quickly after being seated that we were lucky to have been able to get a table! Most people coming in behind us without a booking were turned away. We’d definitely go again but would definitely make a reservation first!
