My partner and I visited as part of no meat meetup on the 30th Jan. The venue facilitated live music, karaoke and a large buffet of all vegan foods for a group of 80 people. The vegan food options were absolutely delicious. I have attached a food photo I took as well as a message from one of the event hosts that details our vegan options for the meal. I’ll write about 3 things in my review. The venue, the staff and the food.

The venue: We went upstairs into a large and beautifully decorated event room, there were several round tables that were neatly laid out and covered in red tablecloths. They had a toilet area and a bar and stairs that led downstairs and outside.

The staff: Staff were quiet and respectful of the event, they gently and respectfully set the tables, moved empty dishes and cutlery and and served the dishes between the very crowded room of people. They timed the dishes perfectly between meals to ensure that people left full and satisfied without the dishes being stuffed into a short and restrictive time frame. The man queuing the songs for karaoke was polite and mellow natured and queued songs happily – he appeared to be joyful that we were having a good time.

The food: The food was abundant in variety and perfectly portioned so each table would have enough. My favourite dishes were the Salt and Chilli Lotus Root, The salt and chilli Tofu and th Crispy Chilli Vegan beef. If it’s not obvious I am a lover of all that is spiced and seasoned and I enjoy food on the slightly saltier side so these were perfect for me. I enjoyed the textures and flavours of most of the dishes but I would highly recommend the ones I mentioned if someone asked me to chose some. Both the rice and noodles complimented the main courses perfectly to the point that I wouldn’t chose one over the other and it would just be dependent on how I feel that day. All vegetables used in the dishes were fresh and flavourful and fitting to that dish. The only dishes that weren’t really for me were the Mo Por Beancurd and the Pan Fried Water Chestnut paste. Neither one was bad, just a miss for me and that would be down to my sensory issues that come with my autism, I would not say to avoid them off of that alone as it’s an individual preference not a bad preparation.

I would highly recommend this venue for big events or parties and for people going for smaller and more intimate meals too as it is beautiful and truly has something for everyone.

Huge menu, with two pages plus of vegan options. Extremely good good food. The portion sizes are enough to share, so either make this your main meal or have it family style. We come here every time we come to Birmingham.

We dropped in for a casual dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The food was well‑balanced and fresh, and the portions were generous without feeling wasteful. The decor is simple but welcoming, with soft lighting that creates a relaxed vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel comfortable from the moment we were seated. Overall it felt like a genuine family Chinese restaurant, and the ambience suited a relaxed evening out. If happiness had a location on Google Maps, it would be here.

Very nice Christmas decorations. Area outside had lots of heaters to keep people warm. Food was good as ever. Large selection of vegetarian choices.

Honestly impeccable. The staff was nice and attentive. The food was SO good. They have a very large menu with set menus, vegetarian options and more. The Mango Pudding we had for dessert was a bit too simple but definitely recommend all the rest. We shared a starter, got a main and dessert for around £20 pp.

At least our half a dozenth visit to Chung Ying. We’ve been for both lunch and dinner, and even on the occasions when we’ve dropped in without warning, they’ve somehow managed to squeeze us in despite being busy. The food is consistently excellent, with generous portions. I still ordered a side of salt and chilli chips, fully aware it was going to be a challenge, but they’re far too good to resist.
This time I sensibly (and uncharacteristically) booked ahead, as it was Chinese New Year. Even though the restaurant was incredibly busy and they had to turn a few people away, the service and food remained absolutely first class.

Really great experience at Chung Ying. I’m celiac and my daughter is allergic to eggs, and the service team (Henry specifically) was so helpful going through their dedicated gluten free and dedicated vegan menus to figure out what we could have to share! Really thoughtful and helpful.

The food itself was also delicious, thoroughly enjoyed by all of us, even my husband with no allergies

We were there for early dinner and didn’t have a reservation, but realised quickly after being seated that we were lucky to have been able to get a table! Most people coming in behind us without a booking were turned away. We’d definitely go again but would definitely make a reservation first!

I had pork noodles, my wife had crispy pork with rice alongside Wanton Soup. With pepsi as the drink. The drinks were great 500ml in tall glasses. I liked my pork noodles, the portion is massive and it’s best in buffet. I had to take it back in a doggy bag. The crispy pork was lovely too. My wife thought the wantons in the soup were not seasoned enough and it did feel.like this. The service was good and felt quick.
