The restaurant has an elegant dining environment, but the lighting is dim, making it impossible to take good photos of the food. However, the portions are generous, and the lobster, steak, and salmon were all grilled to perfection – tender and juicy. The food was delicious and the ingredients were of high quality. Highly recommended.

Another long time Santa Barbara favorite, Chuck’s offers traditional steakhouse fare with a Hawaiian flare. They have a selection of beef cuts to choose from (I prefer the New York strip, medium rare) and several non-steak options to accommodate most people’s tastes. Meals include a trip to the salad bar with amply sized plates and bowls to ensure you get enough. The food is good and I find the service equally good, even when it busy (which is often).
There’s a full bar with separate seating if you’re so inclined or prefer an even more casual and social experience. That being said, the general vibe is very casual and it’s not unlikely to see people wearing anything from shorts and a t-shirt to slacks and a button up – not unlike many Hawaiian restaurants.

We sat on the patio. Unfortunately there was a loud party near us. We asked to be moved but was told nothing was available in the dining area so our dinner didn’t start well. The salad bar is small and very congested. The bread was flavorless. Salad dressing (Thousand Island) was too thick and lumped on the salad. The staff member restocking ingredients on the salad bar was not responsive to questions and barely missed his elbow in my salad plate. My son’s filet was excellent he said. Unfortunately my grilled veggie plate was 90% very large squash and zucchini. Only a few mushrooms and only one piece of onion and red pepper. The accompanying peanut sauce was congealed and hard to use. The bill erroneously added a neighboring table’s wine. Not a very good experience. We had eaten here three years ago but sad to say it does not live up to its hype and certainly seems to have degraded.

The atmosphere was calm. The service was really good even though the food wasn’t as good as I thought. Especially the rice it was really salty the steak was good and juicy. The salad bar was good but definitely over priced for the food

I really wanted this place to be better. My team and I have been eyeing this establishment for weeks. We finally stopped in a week ago. The atmosphere pays homage to old school dining, dimly lit with dark accents and furnishings. The staff and service are excellent. The food and drinks, on the other hand, were not near the quality and / or flavor they should have been, especially for the price. The steak was bland and tough, and the Mai Tai wasn’t the greatest. The salad bar was the best part…. Overall, we still had a great time.

We were visiting Santa Barbara to see family and ate dinner here. We haven’t been here since the pandemic, and glad that they offered outdoor dining. Our server, Chad, was very friendly and excellent. They were very busy yet our server and other staff were attentive. We enjoyed our delicious salad, bread, and dinner. We’ve been over the years and highly recommend.

15 years later and we came back to Chuck’s! Still high quality food at a good price point. The scallops were like butter and the filet mignon was tender and melted in your mouth. Salad bar is great,I love the brown bread! We did have to slow the waitress down, so we could sit and talk over our Mai Tai ‘s before ordering. We will be back very soon!
They have a great outdoor seating area with good heating!

I’m a local and I love going to Chucks. This is the first time that we had to dine outside because we brought a small dog. Let’s talk about the lack of ambience or any thought into making dining outside enjoyable whatsoever. I stared at the wall, not the street and looked at two rudimentary metal tables used by the wait staff. There are no plants or trees or something to make it warm and inviting or make it seem like your eating at a restaurant not eating in an alley. There were more people sitting outside than inside because of the heat , but not a thoughtful aspect whatsoever. Ugly and sad. I’m pretty shocked for Santa Barbara. We were so disappointed after a salad and dried out bread we put our dog in the car and moved to the bar. You can do better. You’re making money outdoors. I think I speak up for those who either don’t have taste or don’t bother to leave a review.

Great food, great value. Staff and service is exceptional . Vibe- classic and welcoming. I would give 5 stars if quality of beef was a bit higher, more robust wine list, and a few craft cocktails. We have been coming for years, and will be customers for life, luv this place
