If you want the best, fresh (you can see the live fish in a tank, and observe the filleting) grilled catfish (fillet) you’ll have to ask for it. But you will be rewarded with the most tender catfish you’ve ever had. The seasoning was perfect and it comes with a container of hot sauce if you want some heat. The yams were delicious and the greens (collard) had a hambone to enhance the flavor. Authentic soul/seafood at its finest right there in Rockford, IL.

Great Soul food here!!! I love the Catfish nuggets and the frog legs!! Wifey likes their tips and the greens are fire with the smoked turkey!! They have a nice selection for Rockford IL to try/ I’ll definitely be back!! The only thing is it’s call only and No call ins/gotta go in and order #soulfood #cashonly

I really did not want to hate this place. I went here for the 1st time and placed my order of catfish fillets and dressing and a chicken wing and catfish nuggets basket.
I waited almost an hour for my food just to be told they didn’t have catfish fillets ( Strike one).
So I got chicken wings instead. After waiting and finally getting my food the catfish nuggets were absolutely terrible, I couldn’t eat it. And the fries were just too gross. Not edible food at all. (Strike Two)
Then I got the booty part of the bread (strike three)
Fries 0/0 not edible
Catfish nuggets 0/0 not edible
The chicken wings was 6/10
Dressing was 7/10

Great Food with awesome portion sizes. We had the chicken and ribs with sweet potatoes, greens, garlic toast and corn bread. Yummy. Catfish is a must try. We prefer the nuggets. Must try in Rockford!!!

1st time trying. Didnt have what I went for so I got the rib dinner. Ribs were mixed with older cooked ribs so made many pieces tough,greens had a bone in them and no season,dressing was good until I came across some really dry pieces of meat so most likely was also not cooked fresh. My corn bread burnt to a crisp. Toast was decent. Not worth $17 or the $3 tip. I can cook all of the above and this dinner wasn’t!!

Rib tips are all right, nothing special. Fried okra is very good. Yams were very good. Cornbread was a little dry. I ordered an additional cornbread biscuit and did not receive it
Service is great
Cash only. No seats to eat inside.
Would I drive the 20 miles to go back to it, probably not.
But I highly suggest to support your local owners

I just had great tasting sweet and zesty rib tips with greens ! Unexpectedly got some corn bread & garlic toast also, many thanks ! So much better tasting and cheaper than I get 20 miles away in Freeport, Illinois. It was only 10 minutes till delivered to my car. Thanks, and thanks for calling me “boo”. #18 white dude, lol. Me & my partner got catfish dinners. Best catfish in Rockford! Big pieces. Hot fresh. Sides are good reminds you of the south. Great service the 2 ladies were so nice checking in while we ate in the car 10/10 will be back!
