What a lovely French style cafe service both sweet and savory crêpes! They even had cute French music playing (“Je ne peux pas travailler…”) Between the 4 in my family, we had 2 sweet and 2 savory crêpes and they were all delicious! Coffee is great too! I would definitely come back.

Loved this French spot! The food was excellent, the mushroom crêpe was so flavorful and the smoked-salmon omelet was delicious. I also loved the ambiance and the music!

This is such a lovely departure from the diners and the donut shops and the begal joints. The French music makes you feel like you’re somewhere else entirely.

I knew I was going to have one savory and one sweet crepe. I didn’t think the savory crepe was going to fill me up the way it did. I was fighting to finish both. Both were excellent.

The savory crepe used a whole wheat batter maybe? I’ve never had anything like it. I don’t know what else to say other than I wish I had one right now. I don’t live in New Haven and if I did, I’d be here once a week.

Street parking is a bit of a pain. The bathroom is also its own journey down a long, winding hallway. Neither of these two things would deter visiting again.

Choupette catered my bridal shower yesterday, and it was truly a magical experience. Two beautiful women were making crepes to order on a hot day, they were professional and so sweet, not to mention they make deLICIOUS crepes. I highly recommend, and want to extend my gratitude! Thank you so much!

A Slice of Paris in the Heart of New Haven

If you’re looking for a portal to the streets of Montmartre without the 7-hour flight, look no further. Walking into Choupette Creperie & Café isn’t just entering a restaurant; it’s a sensory time machine.

Back in 1999, I took the Eurostar through the “Chunnel,” traveling from London to Paris and eventually Barcelona. It was a journey defined by romance, excitement, and the discovery of those tiny, worldly, street-side cafés that leave an indelible mark on your heart. Choupette captures that exact magic. From the moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in a cozy, traditional atmosphere, serenaded by iconic French songs that make the “eat-in” experience feel like a scene from a classic film,

The Ambiance & The Soul

The decor is quaint and thoughtful, featuring a prominent mural adorned with a famous French quotation* (details provided at the end of my review) right next to the kitchen—a constant reminder of the culture and passion behind the food. But the true heartbeat of Choupette? That would be Stephanie, the General Manager; Karo, her right-hand; and Cecilia, Stephanie’s mom. They are absolute stars who have taken such excellent care of me, bringing a warmth to the service that matches the golden glow of the kitchen.

The Palate: A Little Piece of Heaven

This is my second visit. My first was last December. My kids and grandkids joined me for a one-day meetup in New Haven. We came here on a Sunday for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed everything. I moved to New Haven 3+ months ago, and I promised myself a return visit to get another taste of their magnificent Forestiere (Mushroom) crepe. I decided to get creative on my second visit. I ordered a combination of their Norvegienne (Smoked Salmon) and Forestiere (Mushroom) crepes. I’m not exaggerating, each bite was so flavorful it felt like dying and going to heaven. The earthy richness of the mushrooms paired perfectly with the delicate, savory notes of the smoked salmon, delivering an exceptional culinary experience.

I paired my dish with a cup of coffee. However, their coffee, like everything else, is special.

The Coffee:

It doesn’t get fresher or better. You can actually hear the ritual—each cup begins with the grinding of beans followed by an immediate, fresh brew.

The Orange Juice:

I didn’t try it, but I will on my next visit because it is “old-school” at its finest. They take whole oranges, slice them in half, and squeeze them in a traditional press right before your eyes. It is sunshine in a glass.

A Note on the Menu and Prices

Choupette keeps it simple with a consistent menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. To give you the honest scoop: if you’re on a budget or looking for reasonable grab-and-go prices, the morning meal is a bit high, but they settle into “average” for lunch and downright reasonable for a dinner date.

Pro Tip:

When you experience the high quality of the ingredients they use and how delicious the food is, you won’t mind the prices. You simply will not be disappointed. It’s a place that values excellence so much that I genuinely believe they would go out of their way to fix any issue a customer might perceive as wrong.

What’s Next?

While I stuck to my savory favorite with a slight modification this time, Choupette is legendary for its Le Caramel (homemade salted butter caramel) and its Buckwheat (Gluten-Free) Galettes, which I am already eyeing for my next visit.

Whether you are a Francophile or just someone who appreciates food made with soul, give Choupette a try at least once. Your taste buds—and your heart—will thank you.

* The French quotation: “On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.”

English Translation: “One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Attributed to Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the author of the beloved French classic, The Little Prince. According to Gemini AI, it is the most celebrated line of his 1943 classic.

French background music, french interior decoration, French dishes, French accent. The crepes were simple but amazing. The receipt came with a book.

I absolutely adore this place. Why make the trip to France when we have France right here in New Haven. The owner is wonderful. You feel Welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. The perfect selection of crepes made fresh right up front. I had the Complete Veggie which was absolutely delicious. I brought my French mother home the, “my mom is in a good mood” crepe which was a light delightful crepe with fresh maple syrup, cheese , fresh berries and walnuts. My mom loved it! She said it tastes like the crepes her mom used to make! I plan on bringing her on my next trip there. It’s a clean quaint little cafe. The perfect escape on a gloomy work day! I’ll be back 🙂

One word. Amazing. I cannot read enough about this location their staff and the amazing crapes that they serve. I was in New Haven to visit a few students and took them out to brunch on a Friday midday. It was a little bit crowded, but we were able to get seated and opted to choose two savory and two sweet crapes to share.

The savory crêpes we chose were the Norvégienne and the Choupette (sans prosciutto, we substituted egg). The sweet crêpes we chose were the Tintin (new to the menu with speculoos (cookie spread) and bananas) and the “ when my mom is in a good mood” which has maple syrup, a soft cheese, berries, walnuts, and whipped cream.

They were all delicious and had uniques taste s so it would be hard to rank them. The buckwheat flour used for the savory crêpes was authentic and just divine. The fresh whip cream and fruit for the sweet crêpes made them that more delectable.

We were lucky enough to meet the owner Adil and even got to try one more crate a favorite of his not on the menu. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask anyone there. Stefany our server was helpful and even took photos for us. I wish they were locations all around the US. I can’t wait to get back to visit and try other crêpes on the menu.

Don’t miss out on this authentic experience!

The crepes are delicious here but my partner and I have only been able to go once over the last two years, not from a lack of trying. We have tried many times and its been closed even when it says its open. They need to change the hours to actually reflect when they are and aren’t open.
