The side dishes were fresh and constantly refilled, and I especially love their fish cakes, they’re so flavorful and honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. Everything paired perfectly with the BBQ.
The place is managed and staffed by Koreans who obviously care to a high degree about the authenticity of the food they’re putting out. I’ve come here with Korean friends who had nothing but positive things to say, and for me personally, coming to this restaurant alone makes the long trip from Baltimore to Ellicott City worth it.
The quality of the meat they serve is exceptional, with every piece coming out juicy and tender from the grill. Their other options such as their cold noodles and tofu soup are also some of my personal favorites. This place has by far the best Korean food I’ve had in this area, and I 100% recommend it to anyone craving Korean cuisine.
The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and well organized inside. There’s 2 floors to the restaurant, so typically they will have some tables or a short wait time, but I would recommend making a reservation for larger parties especially if it’s a busy day. The restaurant is popular so it does fill up quickly. There is plenty of parking available for those driving here.
cooking everything so fast that it appeared like he was trying to rush us out of the place. If we return we would prefer to cook our own meat, we did not know this was an option until after our meal though.
ChoSun Hwaro has always been one of my partner’s and my favorite places. We’ve celebrated many special occasions here over the years, including holidays and anniversaries. Since today is Valentine’s Day, we decided to come back again, expecting the same great experience we’ve always had.
We came right when the restaurant opened, and there were only a few tables occupied. Unfortunately, the service we received was extremely disappointing.
We ordered the medium BBQ combo. In the past, the servers would carefully grill the meat piece by piece, controlling the heat perfectly so the meat turned out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. However, today the server rushed everything. She put all the meat on the grill at once, even though the grill clearly wasn’t hot enough. The fire was very low, so instead of grilling, the meat was basically being boiled.
What made it worse was that after putting the meat on the grill, the server disappeared for a long time. The fire on the grill eventually went out, and the meat was left sitting there half-cooked for quite a while. It completely ruined the quality of the meal.
We spent around $200, and honestly, it was not worth it at all. For that price, I could have bought plenty of high-quality meat from the supermarket and grilled it myself at home.
This experience was very disappointing, especially on Valentine’s Day. We truly loved this place, but after this visit, we will seriously reconsider whether we want to come back again.
100% recommend.
Chosun Hwaro Marinated Combo $139
I came here on a Tuesday afternoon while in town on vacation. I came with family: 2 adults and 2 children.
The staff was inviting, friendly, and knowledge about the menu. This was only my second time having Korean BBQ in the restaurant and I excited to have a meal tasty lunch and cultural cooking experience before my evening flight.
This was only my second time at a Korean bbq spot and I was floored by the service as well quality and taste of the food and drinks. The staff remembered my family and restarted us even more kindly and interacted well with the young kiddos in our party.
This KBBQ has a full bar as well. Not common in many Korean restaurants.
The experience starts with the spread — a table full of fresh banchan (side dishes) that could honestly be a meal on their own. From kimchi with the perfect tang to the crunchy pickled radish, every little dish adds something to the feast.
The highlight, of course, is the meat selection. We went all-in with marinated short rib and pork belly, and watching them hit the grill was a moment of pure joy. Tender, flavorful, and cooked exactly how you want it, right at your table. The quality is there — you taste it in every bite. We ordered the ChoSun Hwaro marinated set for 139, side a pork belly and seafood pancake. For 5 people, with two big guys over 6 ft tall, we were stuffffed!
Service was attentive without hovering — staff checked in often to make sure the grill was running smoothly and that our table stayed stocked. The atmosphere is lively but not overwhelming, making it just as good for a family dinner as it is for a night out with friends.
By the end, I had eaten way more than planned, but that’s the magic of Korean BBQ done right — you lose track of time (and portion control).
ChoSun Hwaro nails it: great food, thoughtful service, and an experience that makes you want to come back. Ellicott City, Korean bbq, only one clear option.
