Our waiter, Tacob, was phenomenal. He ensured our water was chilled and refilled throughout the evening, and the cocktails were perfectly mixed and served ice-cold. I love spicy food, but my husband doesn’t. Tacob made sure our orders were tailored perfectly — even going the extra mile by bringing me a fresh-made hot sauce so I could spice up my appetizer without affecting my husband’s dish.
The prawns were cooked without spice as requested, but they were still incredibly flavorful. The jasmine rice was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. To top it all off, Tacob recommended a coconut dessert that was so fresh and flavorful it was out of this world.
I highly recommend visiting Chon Thai for dinner — and if you’re lucky enough to have Tacob as your server, you’re in for an exceptional experience!
The waitress seemed more comfortable communicating in Thai than in English, so I had to rely on my Thai friends to do the talking, leaving me unable to participate in the ordering process. The food was generally flavorful, but the presentation was undermined by the dim lighting. There wasn’t enough proper light to clearly see the food and appreciate its presentation, which I found to be a deal-breaker. Many restaurants pay attention to table lighting, and at the very least, portable table lamps should be provided. Eating at a dimly lit dining table not only affects the dining experience but also ruins food photos, making it hard to appreciate the effort the chef put into the plating. I cannot imagine someone enjoying their food in shadows when they can’t accurately figure out what colour is what colour. What we see is definitely not what the chefs see at the kitchen.
All in all, we agreed that a much cheaper meal we had the other day was far more satisfying than this one.
Thai restaurant on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the Siam Hotel. The menu is in English but the pronunciation is that of authentic Thai food. The service is very good. There is a boat service for you to sit and enjoy the atmosphere along both sides of the Chao Phraya River.
I ordered the green curry chicken was delicious as well as the chayote leaves with pork. There’s two options for rice, jasmine or brown rice, of which portions are very generous. The service was prompt and friendly. The most beautiful is the atmosphere. Located next to Chao Phraya river you get to enjoy the river scenery. There’s a small indoor section with AirCon. We went in the afternoon and it was very warm, but we still opted to sit outside in the shaded area. They have a garden section from which you can enjoy your meal or drinks alfresco. And a couple of private areas for group dinner on the upper level of the building. The place is trully a little oasis in Bangkok. The whole premises of the hotel are beautiful. Coming back? Certainly!
The whole evening was fabulous. From the boat journey, cruising the chao Praya at night just for us. The arrival on the jetty, with welcoming Thai smiles. The buildings are gorgeous and was worth wondering around after our dinner, the collection of antiques is quite something. The food was very very good but what blew our mind was the chocolate dessert, Cocoa Nueb (?) Not sure about the name. I should have taken a picture just to remember it. Please put a picture of it here if you have one. Enjoy.
