This was my first time dining at CHO SAN Omakase, and it was a really nice experience from start to finish. The atmosphere felt intimate and relaxed, making it easy to enjoy the meal at a comfortable pace.

The omakase was thoughtfully prepared, with each course flowing nicely into the next. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced, and you could tell a lot of care went into both the ingredients and presentation. The pacing of the meal was just right, allowing you to fully enjoy each dish.

One of the highlights of the experience was the chef. He was very talkative and friendly, and we had genuinely good conversations throughout the meal. He also took the time to explain the dishes and share details about the seafood, which made the experience feel personal and engaging.

Overall, it was a great first visit with delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and an interactive chef. I would definitely recommend CHO SAN Omakase. To make a reservation, you can call the restaurant or text them directly.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I totally would! Cho SAN (Good Morning) Sushi is honestly one of the best sushi spots I’ve ever been to. You can tell they really care about what they do — everything feels authentic and high-quality.

Their homemade soy sauce, real wasabi from fresh roots, and fish sourced straight from Japan make such a difference in the flavor. Even watching them use those beautiful, professional sushi knives right in front of you is such a cool experience!

The staff are super friendly, the service is amazing, and you can tell they genuinely want every customer to have the best time. I’ll definitely be coming back again (and again)!

We made an omakase reservation, but we weren’t asked which menu we wanted to book for and the menu wasn’t confirmed on the day of either (they just started serving us the course with no paper menu available). We assumed it would be around ~$100-$120 per person, but the it ended up being $260 per person. It was also our fault for not checking which menu we were being served, but I’m confused why they never gave us a choice or even told us what we were getting.

The 5 appetizers we got were okay. Despite not knowing the price, I already had critiques about the appetizers. Particularly, the soba appetizer tasted too starchy (would have been better if they ran it under cold water before serving to get rid of the starchiness). The sashimi served was decent, but nothing special. We also got a fried fish which was good but anything deep fried is good in my opinion and the greasiness felt out of place with the rest of the meal.

The sushi itself was much better than the appetizers. Most of the fish did melt in my mouth. An interesting one we had was the sugar fish paired with mini green onions which tasted like a Vietnamese spring roll. I also really enjoyed the uni roll – the roasted seaweed paired so well with it (as someone who normally doesn’t like uni). However, they made a big deal about using very expensive seaweed for the hand roll we got – which in my opinion the roasted seaweed used for the uni sushi was way better and it was nothing special. So I would recommend coming for the lunch/dinner sushi omakase menu only and skip any appetizers.

They also served us a piece melon for dessert (which I loved), but then they told us 1 whole melon normally $128 (and then the math started not making sense to us for the price of the meal). They also served homemade ice cream which was also nothing special. I found the hojicha one to be too grainy.

After the meal, we were full (another red flag about the price of the meal because we’re never full after omakase) and satisfied until we saw the bill.

The food and especially the service did not match the price. The sushi chef we got was very skilled and friendly, however there was a language barrier and he was shy about explaining the dishes to us. Sometimes we would get our food and we sit there waiting for an explanation and then he’d remember and just tell us what fish it was.

Just had a great lunch there, staff is polite and patient. You can see the passion for food from his eyes. The see food is amazingly fresh and rare to find anywhere else. Their seasonal items are amazing and reasonably priced. Overall great place for Japanese experience !

A Heartfelt Experience
We celebrated my mother-in-law’s birthday at Cho San Sushi, and it was truly memorable. The entire experience felt special — all the seafood was flown in fresh from Japan, and each dish was thoughtfully presented with explanations about its origin and background. The service was exceptional, making us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for.
Highly recommended for a refined and meaningful dining experience.

Drop by for lunch they only have one lunch set. But it was nice to sit down and enjoy lunch. The Uni is super fresh. Lots of selection of fish to take home.

Don’t let the external façade fool you, this is definitely a diamond in the rough! I’ve been to just a few omakase dinners (ATO and Umi in Markham, and Yasu downtown), but Cho San is definitely comparable.
The toro, shrimp, scallop and uni were excellent. I was surprised to be served 3 fish I’ve never heard of (chicken fish, horse mackerel, and largehead hairtail), also very good. I also never had unago – not the common unagi – but the saltwater version of eel, it was incredibly smooth.

The chef was very friendly and attentive, and paced our meal well. He mentioned that they get shipments directly from Japan, three times a week! Even the green onions in the miso soup are fresh from Japan.

The $48 bottle of sake was excellent, and because we couldn’t finish it, they packaged the bottle so nicely for us to take home.

Again, it wasn’t as fancy as the other three places I mentioned, and also much smaller – literally just one room with about 10 dining seats, but the experience was still very enjoyable and the food was a 10/10. I will return!

I love sushi and I grew up eating it. I’ve experienced from a wide range of quality and I have to say, Chi SAN Sushi is up there.

We chose 7 kinds of fishes and one sweet shrimp and requested they slice it for us. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. Compared to the prices in Montreal, this is a great deal! We even got to taste some expensive fishes like Toro tuna and even fish liver.

But my favorite has to be that beautiful and incredibly delicious bento box (105$). It has uni, mackerel, salmon roe, tuna and more along with well seasoned rice. Truly a box of jewel.

I only have praise for this place and highly recommend it! Freshness and quality guaranteed.
