Been looking forward to trying Cho Dang Gol Tofu & BBQ out since it’s opening. Unfortunately this was delayed due to the restaurant catching fire, but glad to report it’s back open.

The inside decor is beautiful and love the privacy of the seating. Fully able to enjoy your meal and conversation with your party.

Service was top notch. We never needed to use the button to get the attention of our waitress.

The sides: were a miss for us. But don’t let that keep you from missing out on the main dishes.

Starters: Pan Fried Dumplings are an easy choice for great flavor and pairing with everything else.

Main course: Beef Bulgogi is easily always one of my favorite go to items. Had a great marinaded flavor, paired with the hot stone cooked rice. Just hit the spot.

The spicy tofu variant with beef bulgogi was also a delicious choice. The heat level ordered was, “hot.” But wasn’t spicy to myself. It does build the more you eat. So don’t get too deep if you’re seeking more heat.

Lastly the Cheese Pork Cutlet!!! This was delicious in every sense of the word. The crispiness is next level, cheese just goes perfectly with it. Then add in the dipping sauce! Already wanting more. If Pork isn’t your thing, they also offer it in Chicken. 😉

Just check out everything we had on our visit. Plenty of pictures and videos to entice you with.

We can’t wait to return to try more.

Price point is a bit on the high side. But you do get bigger serving sizes here. And we definitely left with tons of left overs. So you get what you pay for.

Think some of the items could be a hit or miss for some. So order based on what you’ve had previously and break you into this establishment gently to make the most of your experience.

What are some of your favorites?
How was your visit?

Until next time.

Amazing Authentic Korean Food & Outstanding Service
I had a wonderful experience at Chodanggol. The food was absolutely delicious, truly authentic Korean cooking, and you can tell it’s prepared by a skilled Korean chef. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and comforting.
What really made the visit special was the service. K was incredibly kind and provided some of the best service I’ve had. Even though the restaurant was very busy, she never lost her smile and made sure everyone was taken care of.
Daniel and the entire staff were also friendly, welcoming, and very helpful throughout our meal.
Highly recommend Chodanggol for anyone looking for great Korean food and warm hospitality. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We’ve been watching when life gives you tangerines on Netflix and decided we really, really wanted some Korean squid. I’m so happy that Cho Dang Gol showed up as a local place because it is delicious! My husband, daughter and I went here on a whim and tried some of our newfound favorites!

Jjambbong tofu soup (squid, mussels, shrimp) tofu soup: the broth took me back to a homemade with grandma’s love kind of feel. It was deeply flavorful and rich, pairing perfectly with the rice.

Cheesy pork cutlet: because who doesn’t love pork cutlet and who doesn’t love cheese? It was very good. I liked dipping it in the bon chan’s sesame salad dressing.

The bon chan: I’d come here everyday to eat the kim chi. I cannot overstate how much I love the kim chi. My other favorite was the sesame dressing salad, very authentic flavors.

Cheesy corn (not pictured): I forgot to eat lunch today and inhaled the whole thing.

The waitress and owner were so sweet and took great care of us too. We will definitely be back again and again because the prices are so fair for the portions you get!

Yesterday, we visited CHO DANG GOL in Pearland. A woman named K asked if it was our first time there, and we said yes. We were having trouble choosing our food, but she came over, smiled, and greeted us again, kindly recommending dishes. We ordered TTEOKBOKKI, SPICY RAW CRAB, SPICY SQUID, and O SAM HOT POT BIBIMBAP, all of which she recommended. It was all incredibly delicious. We were going to order Soju, but she recommended Makgeolli instead. We hesitated because we had never tried it before, but we decided to try it. It was a few dollars more expensive than Soju, but it was delicious. It didn’t seem like she recommended it just to make more money. We’ve decided to drink Makgeolli from now on. It’s sweet, and I can’t quite describe the taste, but I highly recommend it. She said it’s made with Korean rice. Anyway, we had a very fun and comfortable meal. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Finally, thank you to K for taking such good care of us from beginning to end.

I’ve been here three times now since they’ve changed names and ownership, and I will admit, the food is much better than before and that’s why I’ve gone back. But the first time I ordered over the phone (after new name and management), the older lady said 20 mins which when I arrived, it was not ready. She would keep coming back and telling me a few more minutes and apologizing that it was “really busy”, even though 60% of tables were empty, and it took 40 additional minutes waiting at the restaurant til I received my order. The second time I came, I decided to eat there which was fine. Tonight was my third time. I had placed my order over the phone and was told it will be about 20 mins. When I arrived, it was still not done and they said they were waiting on a few more dishes. As time kept passing by, they kept reassuring that it’s almost done.10 mins would go by, then 20 minutes, and they kept saying 5 more minutes. I didn’t receive my order until over an hour after I had ordered. The frustration lies with the staff coming back to tell me it’s almost done when in reality, it was not. I had to wait an additional 50 mins at the restaurant. I had my children and husband in the car waiting, and my kids were getting antsy. I had to bring them into the restaurant and they kept asking for their food and getting upset because they were so hungry. The food was suppose to be finished by the time I got there, instead, it was an hour later. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt after the first visit, but this seems like it will just be a reoccurrence. I like the food but having to wait an over hour each time deters me from ever going back. Disappointing. I was also not offered any discounts as an apology for the long wait. I asked for water to-go and they had no to-go cups. I saw other people there waiting for their food too. Doesn’t seem like they prioritize take out orders.

Edit: I just came home to open the food and the Gomtang was not how I had it the other times. Literally just broth and a few strips of beef (they had radish last time in it), and they gave uncooked noodles in a ziploc. Then the bibimbap was just thrown into a to-go box. For the price, this is not acceptable. I get you may be busy in the kitchen, but if I wasn’t going home with my order, how do they expect me to cook uncooked noodles? I’m confused.

Korean food that is cooked for you. This is not Korean bbq where you cook the meat yourself. They have bench seating and tables. There’s a variety on their menu to choose from. I got the spicy chicken bibimbap and it was served in a huge hot stone bowl. The hot stone bowl makes the rice crispy. The meal also came with side dishes which is traditional for Korean meals. The spicy chicken was flavorful but I do not think it was spicy. You could definitely share the meal with the portions they give you.

We visited the Pearland location, expecting the good food we had at the Katy location, but were disappointed. First, there was a sign at the entrance saying ‘New Management,’ so I’m not sure if it’s the same management as the Katy location. We visited during Sunday lunchtime and were the first customers. We ordered one soft tofu soup + mackerel combo and one regular soft tofu soup. The staff were generally friendly, but the grilled mackerel was very dry and tasteless. The soft tofu soup taste wasn’t bad, but it didn’t come out with rice, so when I asked, I was told the rice would come out in 10 minutes. Usually, no matter which soft tofu restaurant you visit, the rice and soup always come out together, but it wasn’t the case here, and the soup got cold while waiting for the rice. Also, the soft tofu soup always came with grilled yellow corvina (jo-gi), but it didn’t here, and when I asked, I was just told that it wouldn’t be served today. We visited because of the good memory from the Katy location, but with this food quality and service, I don’t think we will visit again. The staff were generally friendly. However, they seemed like they didn’t really know what they were supposed to be doing.

The new management team is awesome! Their updated menu and the food is on another level. I am so glad Pearland has got another good Asian restaurant. And shout out to “K”, she wasn’t our server but brought side dishes to our table, she is so sweet and kind. I am surely coming back!

If you’re craving authentic Korean flavors without the Chinatown drive, this spot is a gem. Cho Dang Gol in Pearland (formerly Tofu Town) absolutely delivers.

Pictured: Spicy stir-fried squid, dumpling & rice cake soup, tofu soup with LA galbi combo, and the pork cutlet.

Would order again: The dumpling & rice cake soup and the pork cutlet.

The soup was exactly what I needed while recovering from being under the weather! It was clean, hearty, and comforting. The pork cutlet was perfectly crispy, fried just right, and paired with a homemade sauce that was DELICIOUSLY different from the usual, SO GOOD I scraped the plate clean!

Service was friendly, and portions were generous enough to share (we did family style)!

I’ll definitely be back, this place is a new go-to for my Korean fix in Pearland.

I got the veggie kimchi soup and potato pancake appetizer and it was so delicious and savory and the server walked me out and wished me well! They specialize in soup/stews and offer Korean BBQ dishes.

They have tons of beef, chicken and pork dishes that makes your mouth water! If you like kimchi and bottomless rice this is the place!
