This authentic Chinese bakery got various decent breads and desserts. I really enjoyed the pineapple bun. It got a pleasing and light sweet taste of flour. The egg tart was also great, but not as impressive as their bread. Some frozen Chinese buns were available for cooking at home. The price was reasonable.

Always amazing and consistent quality here. They are cash only but there is an ATM inside. Our favorites are the strawberry sponge cake and the egg tarts. They also have a variety of frozen buns that are really good to steam or even air fry at home.

I try to stop here any time I go to Chinatown, for example after getting my license renewed at the Chinatown DMV (which I also recommend, the service is great there). The Portuguese egg tarts taste as good as when I ate them in Portugal, but the red bean moon cakes are my absolute favorite, when they’re in season. I like to try something new every time I go – there’s such a variety that I can do that. Remember, it is cash only, though they have an ATM.

Honestly confused about the hype around this place. As someone who grew up in HK and Taiwan, this bakery is not authentic or good quality at all. Selection was also very limited and the service was beyond rude (I speak Cantonese and Mandarin fluently so it wasn’t due to a language barrier). We got the taro pudding, box fruit cake, coconut and BBQ buns, and all of them were stale and tasted like they were days old. The cleanliness of the place also left a lot to be desired.
Also future warning to anyone thinking of coming here: they will try to say they are cash only, but they actually accept Zelle and Apple Pay too if you specifically ask for it. When we visited, the lady at the register swore up and down that they only take cash and insisted that we use the ATM behind us. But just as we were going to withdraw, we heard her tell the next customer that they do accept Apple Pay. We immediately cancelled our ATM transaction and questioned her about this and she had nothing to say – just printed out a receipt with a QR code and shoved it at us while avoiding eye contact. And now based on other reviews we’ve learned that they accept Zelle too. I don’t know why the lady would tell us that they are cash only, and then immediately give conflicting information to the customer afterwards. Luckily we were within earshot as we would’ve had to pay a completely unnecessary ATM fee on top of paying for their overpriced, stale items. Just sketchy business practices all around.
I think people only recommend this place because there are very few options for Chinese bakeries in Chicago, but Chiu Quon is actually pretty mediocre compared to Chinese bakeries in cities where there is more variety and competition. We’re going to give Saint Anna’s a try next but even if there were no other Chinese-style bakeries in Chicago, I still wouldn’t go to Chiu Quon.

Went for the Bbq pork buns and they did not disappoint. Flavorful and so soft, it almost melts in your mouth like a krispy crème donut.

Out of all the years we’ve come, today was first time we had problem. BBQ buns had peanuts on the bottoms. So so sad and disappointing. Likely front staff not caring.
Absolutely amazing food. I dream about their baos.
*they are cash only!*

Prices were very cheap. I got quite a bit for a quick breakfast for a little over 6 dollars. Definitely recommend the curry bun and Portuguese egg tart.

AMAZING Chinese bakery and at very affordable prices! My favorite pastry was the egg tart. Cash only.

Favorite bakery in Chinatown w/ the added benefit of offering single item dim sum. Their bakery features items that are hard to find elsewhere, including phoenix cookies – a delicious must-get if you’re willing to venture beyond the safer, more familiar classics. The only underwhelming item are the egg tarts, as the crust isn’t quite right
Cash only and will sell out of the most popular items well before closing time
