When I arrived at the Chipotlane to pick up my order, the first thing I noticed was several employees standing around, chatting with one another inside only steps away from the pick up window. One of them glanced at me in the drive-thru pick-up lane but then continued talking to the other employees gathered instead of helping. I could clearly see my food sitting by the register through the window. It wasn’t until I had waited a couple of minutes that a younger female employee finally handed me my order.
Despite my initial experience I was excited to eat when I got home, but that excitement quickly turned to frustration. The entire burrito was cold—despite only a short drive home! I tried microwaving it, but it didn’t help. The food was overly salty, even the chips tasted stale! It seemed as though it had been sitting out for days. The lettuce was soggy before I even microwaved it, and the portion sizes were shockingly small: just a pinch of lettuce and a small spoonful each of beans, rice, corn, and pico de gallo.
I spent over $20 on this meal, plus a $2 tip I added before receiving the order—something I wouldn’t have done if I had known the quality of service and food I was about to receive. To top it off, I’ve had heartburn only two times in my life and it was during the 9th week of both of my pregnancies. In other words, I don’t typically get heartburn, but this burrito managed to give me heartburn after just two bites.
This experience has ensured that I will never return to this Chipotle location. The lack of quality and care at this restaurant is appalling and risks tarnishing the reputation of other Chipotle locations. Quality assurance and food safety inspections—perhaps even from Maricopa County—are desperately needed at this location. What a shame.
