I order from this location frequently, and unfortunately they almost always get something wrong. My most recent visit was by far the worst.
Today they forgot the steak in a “Steak” Build Your Own meal. Previous orders have been missing the juice, the chips, or both. This keeps happening.
If there were a way to give this location a zero, I would. This was not a minor inconvenience but a clear breakdown in basic restaurant standards. Management needs to take a hard look at what is happening at this store.
Once she started, she announced that the restaurant was out of steak. Immediately, several other employees echoed the same message. When they asked if customers wanted to substitute another meat, I explained that steak is the most expensive option and that we would need a refund for the difference.
At that moment, another employee announced that they had found the steak — it had been stored on the wrong shelf. Not only is this completely unacceptable, but it also raises serious concerns regarding proper food handling and temperature safety.
Because they had to start cooking the newly discovered steak, online orders were delayed by roughly 30 minutes past their fulfillment times. This is not simply “an inconvenience”—this is a breakdown in basic operational standards.
Once my order was finally ready, I went to fill my drink and was completely taken aback. The entire beverage area was filthy (see attached photos). The counter, the machine, the area underneath—everything looked like it had not been cleaned in a very long time. This alone is enough to call into question the level of oversight and leadership in this location.
When I arrived home, the rice and beans were missing from my quesadilla meal.
Chipotle’s “Our Commitment to You” page claims they are committed to leading in food safety, maintaining clean and sanitary restaurants, and providing a reliable, quality customer experience. This location failed every single one of those commitments:
• Food safety leadership? The staff didn’t even know where the steak was kept.
• Cleanliness? The beverage station was visibly and embarrassingly filthy.
• Customer support? When I attempted to report these issues through Chipotle’s online chat, the system closed the conversation telling me “Your order was completed on time,” which was simply untrue.
Whoever is managing this Morris Plains Chipotle should be ashamed of the conditions of the restaurant and the lack of basic operational control. Additionally, Chipotle corporate should seriously reconsider what “commitment” means if customers cannot even report legitimate concerns without being dismissed.
This experience reflects a complete failure of quality standards for a restaurant.
They also can’t manage the simple concept of opening on time. I’ve shown up at the posted opening hour more than once only to find the doors locked while employees shuffle around inside at their own pace, or I’m told to wait while they slowly get themselves together. If you post an opening time, be ready to serve.
The environment is uncomfortable and outright hostile. Employees stare, whisper, and make customers feel judged while ordering. I’ve watched them laugh and make comments after people walk away, which is beyond unprofessional and completely unacceptable in any customer service setting.
And the place is clearly not maintained. The soda machine still wasn’t fixed, and during one visit it malfunctioned and sprayed Coke everywhere, soaking us and leaving a sticky mess. Staff acted like it was no big deal no apology, no urgency, no effort to handle the situation professionally.
This location doesn’t just have bad service it has zero accountability, zero professionalism, and zero respect for customers. Management needs to step in immediately because the current staff is driving people away. If they can’t treat customers decently or keep the place running properly, they have no business working in customer service.
Never coming back.
I’m noticing a lot of people are saying the same and I’m wondering why corporate has not stepped in. We just moved to the area and love Chipotle but will travel to another so we don’t deal with this place again
