10 out of 10 would recommend. This is a great spot to have an authentic African food experience. The restaurant itself is really nice, the service is exceptional and the food is top tier. My son and I dined here together. He ordered jollof, mackerel, and plantains. I stuck with my tried and true go-to egusi, fufu, and plantains. Absolutely delicious and satisfying! Do yourself a flavor and pass on through.

This was honestly the worst African food experience I’ve ever had. I have been eating egusi for many years from many different restaurants and egusi should NEVER be bitter. The soup I received was extremely bitter, to the point where it was inedible. I took maybe three bites before having to stop.
When I called the restaurant to let them know, the response I received was very dismissive. I was told, “This is how Nigerian food is,” which is simply not true. After speaking with multiple friends who are very familiar with Nigerian cuisine because they are Nigerian, they confirmed what I already knew: egusi is not supposed to taste bitter unless something went wrong—such as rancid/expired egusi seeds, spoiled palm oil, or the soup being burned during the cooking process.
The meat itself tasted fine and didn’t smell off, and the fufu was okay, but the egusi soup ruined the entire meal. The food cost $23, and it was a complete waste of money because it could not be eaten.
What makes this even more upsetting is that I am currently pregnant, and food safety matters. Eating food that tastes rancid or improperly prepared is concerning, and I truly hope I don’t get sick from this experience.
If you look through other takeout reviews, you’ll notice a pattern—many customers mention that the food quality is poor and the customer service is even worse. Unfortunately, my experience confirmed that trend.
I will never order from this place again, and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for authentic, well-prepared African food.

I had my 50th birthday at Chioma’s African Restaurant, and I have to say — it was absolutely perfect! From start to finish, Chioma and her team overdelivered in every possible way.
First, the food — oh my god! The African food was absolutely finger-licking good! My guests and I couldn’t stop raving about how flavorful and authentic everything tasted. And let me tell you, there was plenty of food to go around — everyone was well-fed and satisfied. For the amount and quality of food we got, the price was unbelievably affordable.
The environment was spotless — clean, pristine, and so welcoming. The warmth and hospitality made everyone feel comfortable and at home. Dorcas- the owner herself was incredibly professional and went above and beyond to make my day special. She even added so many thoughtful extras, including beautiful balloons and coordinating the birthday cake! It truly felt like a one-stop-shop for a celebration — I didn’t have to stress about a thing.
My 40 guests were blown away, and I’m confident Dorcas gained a lot of new loyal customers that night because everyone is already talking about going back! If you’re looking for a place to celebrate any event or just enjoy incredible African cuisine, Chioma’s African Restaurant is the place to go.
Dorcas, thank you for making my milestone birthday so special. I will definitely be back — and so will my guests!

The portions were generous and the meat was plenty, but overall the food was a big letdown. The sauces were a complete miss and instead of enhancing the meal, they ruined it. The ayamashe was blended way too smooth, almost like baby food, which made it unappealing. The okra soup had no draw at all — very strange in both taste and texture. To top it off, the food really messed up my stomach, and my family’s as well. Definitely not the experience we were hoping for.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement, this is the only African restaurant in this area and every time I go, I’m disappointed. So this time I decided to write a review. The fact that I paid $21 and this is what I get a whole plate of rice, two small pieces meat, and a half bowl of okra soup. So basically I paid to have rice for lunch. I figured if I would go earlier in the day, I will get fresh food, but I didn’t. The okra soup taste burnt. The meat was very tough and the rice let’s just say the rice was not made that day. I love supporting black owned restaurants, but at the same time I would like to get my money worth for my food, because I could have went home and made me a pot of rice. I am upset and will no longer support this restaurant. I will drive all the way to Decatur just to get some Africanfood

Pleasant afrobeats, lovely dining room. We had pineapple lemonade (delicious) and jollof with assorted meats, and white rice with stew, goat meat. My husband was sweating from the spice, but the Nigerian chopped salad cooled us both down. So tasty!

Food was very Hot! Just like I like it. Everything was delicious. The beef was very soft and tender. My husband had fish he stated it was hot & fresh. We will be back!

‼️My husband and I ordered Egusi Goat fufu after reading several reviews we STILL wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and try , we are GENUINELY concerned about why the food smells and tastes sooooo bad . It was awful . Nothing towards the restaurant nor the culture but we would love to know what is happening at this place , something is not right. We need answers . It was terrible. 0/10

Ordered Egusi soup for take-out and it was absolutely disgusting. The worst Egusi I have ever had and i’ve had the dish plenty of times. I was served a giant raw turkey wing inside of my food and brought the food back to receive a refund. I very respectfully and very politely asked for refund of the soup, instead of giving me a refund they talked to me very disrespectfully and nasty. I was told I don’t like african food, I don’t know what egusi taste like, and they said africans don’t do refunds. The way yall talk to yall’s paying customers is horrible and bad for business. I will never come back here again! They also lied and told me they processed the refund but I have yet to receive my money back and they refused to give me a receipt for proof. I wasn’t even going to make a post because I would’ve loved for yall to learn from your mistakes and make the food better next time but yall are dead wrong especially for the price I paid. I actually really love african food so I am extremely disappointed with this experience.

I tried this place through door dash…I swear my food literally tasted rotten. I was very excited to try the fufu and egusi…but oh my goodness. The smell, the flavor was all horrendous. the best way I could describe the smell and flavor was what a horse in a dirty barn smells like. literally. And i no way shape or form am i trying to bash (as I have never even written a google review) this restaurant but I just had to give this feedback because it was that bad. I genuinely tried to like the food but it was quite literally the worst food I have ever tasted in my life.
