I have lived in this area off and on for 30 years but never tried Chin’s Cafe until this past week because I was hesitant due to it being part of a hotel and older. My biases were wrong!
I also lived in multiple cities in Mainland China for over a decade so differentiate between American Chinese and the food I had there.
I was so happy with the take away we got from Chin’s – I missed out if year of decent food… not only was everything cooked perfectly – crisp where it should be and soft everywhere else, but it hit the spot for the craving for American Chinese food with the ragoon’s and sweet and sour that was clearly made in house (I found a piece of pineapple in it and it congealed in the fridge) but when I tasted cinnamon in the meat, not just 5 spice, with other well balanced and developed Chinese flavor coming through aromatically and in the flavors I was really excited!!!
I was over the moon for the black bean garlic sauce and tofu as well as the flavor of the bbq pork rib.
The staff was also friendly and efficient. We did take away because we are not big fans of sitting down in restaurants but when in there everything was clean and the oil smelled clean and not over used.
I have pictures that make everything look horrible but it is easily the best Chinese in Humboldt that I have had in years just based on the flavors and textures I am looking for.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it though I will say it was a very slow day and the owners were there so I don’t know how the “B” crew is. But really, I’m a light eater and I ate about 4 of the things we ordered on my own it was so good!

This restaurant is very clean, fast and friendly service, and is conveniently located near our airbnb. However it was hot and the food was not very good. I wouldn’t eat here again.

Staff were polite and welcoming, which was the only positive aspect of the visit. Unfortunately, the dining environment was extremely hot and uncomfortable, making it hard to enjoy the meal.
The food was bland, tasted processed, and seemed straight out of a bag. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and I would not return.

Staff was very friendly until we called about an issue with our order (chow mein really is $13 for a small, ripped plastic baggie of crunchy noodles and a bucket of cabbage). Other food tasted bland with that odd desaturated color and chewy texture of bagged, frozen product. Portion sizes were also oddly small for the price, but nothing to fuss over. Atmosphere was comfortable and familiar; reminscent of many family-owned restaurants, which I love.

I have eaten there since they opened. My favorite was sesame prawns. Good until now. They change the recipe and it awful. I will not go back. Quality has gone down. I miss the original owners. Im sad I lost a good food place.

Great service, great classic family atmosphere (really retro blast from the past feeling Chinese place), and wonderful food! Definitely worth going to for Chinese food in this area

Great Moo Goo Gai Pan. Chinese decor with fun vibrant orange booths. We were happy we stopped in.

Got orange chicken and rice with the $2 upgrade to pork fried rice. The one star is for orange flavor. The broccoli was almost raw. I wanted chicken but got fluffy breading with tiny pieces of chicken. The rice tasted burned.

The food was fantastic! I’ve never been here before, however after recently seeing a post on a local Facebook page where tons of people were raving about the place I decided to go here for dinner tonight while we were in Eureka. The food was absolutely incredible easily some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. The waiter who I’m pretty sure owns the restaurant, was very friendly and attentive. I see a few negative reviews I’m not sure what happened with their experience because everyone in our family was very satisfied. All of our meals were simply amazing. I look forward to dining here again next time
We decide to go somewhere for dinner in Eureka. P.S. don’t let the old 1970s style orange booths and the outdated decor fool you. This place is a perfect example of not judging a book by the cover!
