As a guy from Hunan I guarantee you this is the most authentic Hunan cuisine I have ever had in SF. The spice level is spot on- not just hot, but well coordinated with the food itself. The stir fried beef is just like the one I had in Hunan – spicy with all the rich flavors. Dry pot chitins is phenomenal as well, crispy and delicious. I’ve been eating here for a year now, and I have not had any food which is not authentic and delicious. Shout out to chino and the Hunanese chef man, appreciate yall for bringing authentic food from my hometown to the city. Definitely a 10/10, a must try Chinese restaurant!
I got a dry spicy pot with pork spare ribs, celery, tofu skin, potatoes, lotus root, woodear mushroom. This was very addictive with its numbing and chilli spice. The meat / veggie ratio is good, personally I would prefer more veggie.
Also got
Hunan fried rice noodle which was less spicy with a nice smoky aroma. It also had some tripe.
Ginger chilli free range chicken which was very spicy with jalapenos and bone in chicken. It has chicken elbow, skin, feet and white meat. This was delicious.
Spicy chilli fish fried fish. The batter was extremely crispy and the fish was nice and soft inside. This was a touch on the saltier side.
Everthing was delicious albeit a little pricey.
The service was very helpful and efficient.
The chrysanthemum tea helped to wash down the chilli oil and really hit the spot.
All in all a great meal and I will be back!
Service was friendly and efficient, and the overall vibe was comfortable. If you like authentic, flavorful Chinese food, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Will be back!
Highly recommend for anyone craving real Chinese comfort food — especially Hunan-style lovers! We’ll definitely be coming back again soon!
The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the service was friendly and warm. Honestly, I felt like we got way more than what we paid for. It’s rare to find a restaurant that gets everything right — food, value, and authenticity — but ChinoYang’s truly delivers. Even the restaurant is kind small for big group, though it is super clean and warmed!
If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. Five stars is the limit of the rating scale, not the limit of this restaurant’s excellence. This place sets the bar above and beyond. A must-try for anyone who loves real Hunan food — you’ll leave with a happy heart and a full stomach!
✨ Must-tries: sour long beans with chicken gizzards (perfect with rice!), stir-fried beef with sirloin (tender and real quality), and the classic couple’s beef & tripe.
Spice level is lighter than traditional Hunan—my Cantonese friend found it spicy, but I thought it was just right . The owner is super friendly and makes you feel at home!
We are happy that he has found a new, larger, place in Millbrae, but we will surely miss not having our favorite Chinese restaurant just a few blocks away.
