The best spicy Chinese cuisine in the city!
As a guy from Hunan I guarantee you this is the most authentic Hunan cuisine I have ever had in SF. The spice level is spot on- not just hot, but well coordinated with the food itself. The stir fried beef is just like the one I had in Hunan – spicy with all the rich flavors. Dry pot chitins is phenomenal as well, crispy and delicious. I’ve been eating here for a year now, and I have not had any food which is not authentic and delicious. Shout out to chino and the Hunanese chef man, appreciate yall for bringing authentic food from my hometown to the city. Definitely a 10/10, a must try Chinese restaurant!

The food at chino yangs was fantastic.

I got a dry spicy pot with pork spare ribs, celery, tofu skin, potatoes, lotus root, woodear mushroom. This was very addictive with its numbing and chilli spice. The meat / veggie ratio is good, personally I would prefer more veggie.

Also got

Hunan fried rice noodle which was less spicy with a nice smoky aroma. It also had some tripe.

Ginger chilli free range chicken which was very spicy with jalapenos and bone in chicken. It has chicken elbow, skin, feet and white meat. This was delicious.

Spicy chilli fish fried fish. The batter was extremely crispy and the fish was nice and soft inside. This was a touch on the saltier side.

Everthing was delicious albeit a little pricey.

The service was very helpful and efficient.

The chrysanthemum tea helped to wash down the chilli oil and really hit the spot.

All in all a great meal and I will be back!

Had a fantastic meal here. Everything we ordered came out hot, fresh, and packed with bold flavor. One dish arrived on a sizzling plate and smelled amazing the moment it hit the table—super satisfying with a great spicy kick. The other was rich and savory with that classic wok-char taste, and the ingredients were cooked perfectly.

Service was friendly and efficient, and the overall vibe was comfortable. If you like authentic, flavorful Chinese food, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Will be back!

I brought my family here and everything was sooo good! The flavors are authentic and full of that real Hunan (湘菜) spice and aroma — just the right balance of heat and freshness. Every dish tasted homemade with high-quality ingredients. The service was friendly and fast, and the whole atmosphere felt warm and welcoming.

Highly recommend for anyone craving real Chinese comfort food — especially Hunan-style lovers! We’ll definitely be coming back again soon!

Absolutely phenomenal — hands down the best Hunan food I’ve ever had in the U.S.! We ordered three dishes, and every single one was packed with bold, authentic flavors that instantly reminded me of home-style cooking done right. The spice level, the freshness, and the balance of flavors were all spot on. You can really tell the chef knows what true Hunan cuisine should taste like — not watered down, not Americanized, just pure perfection.

The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the service was friendly and warm. Honestly, I felt like we got way more than what we paid for. It’s rare to find a restaurant that gets everything right — food, value, and authenticity — but ChinoYang’s truly delivers. Even the restaurant is kind small for big group, though it is super clean and warmed!

If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. Five stars is the limit of the rating scale, not the limit of this restaurant’s excellence. This place sets the bar above and beyond. A must-try for anyone who loves real Hunan food — you’ll leave with a happy heart and a full stomach!

Weekday dinner with friends in SF! Heard about this spot for authentic Hunan food, so we had to try. The smoked beef and ribs were flavorful and unique.

✨ Must-tries: sour long beans with chicken gizzards (perfect with rice!), stir-fried beef with sirloin (tender and real quality), and the classic couple’s beef & tripe.

Spice level is lighter than traditional Hunan—my Cantonese friend found it spicy, but I thought it was just right . The owner is super friendly and makes you feel at home!

Pretty fun vibes inside, combining traditional Chinese deco with hip hop discography near the ceiling. Great food as well, very impressive at the expansive menu and both the quality and quantity they give you.

My experience here is unforgettable, the foods reminded me from my hometown China. I been eating around the bay Area, and there’s no “authentic” Hunan food like this place. The service is good, but sometimes little bit busy, the foods came little bites longer, but it worth the wait. I highly recommend!!!

The portions were very generous, and the food was as delicious as ever, with perfect color, aroma, and taste. Next time I’ll try other dishes I haven’t tried yet. This restaurant is so delicious, I have to give it a huge thumbs up so everyone can see and enjoy this amazing food. The service was excellent, the menu was diverse and flavorful, and the price was great – truly worth every penny. Everything was freshly made, no pre-prepared food, so it was very clean and hygienic. Highly recommended!

Every time we go we have excellent food and service. Chino usually is there to greet us and make us feel as if we are eating at his home. The food is authentic Chinese. We have tasted so many different items and all of them have not disappointed us!

We are happy that he has found a new, larger, place in Millbrae, but we will surely miss not having our favorite Chinese restaurant just a few blocks away.
