I came in mid-week. The prices were surprisingly affordable. Being a foodie, I was attracted to the fact that the restaurant advertised Cantonese cuisine. For me, sadly, the food was more American Chinese food than anything. There was nothing extraordinary about the food itself.

I want to balance my opinion with the value the restaurant brings. HOSPITALITY: We were served complimentary tea. The staff was very attentive. VALUE: the price of the food was surprisingly affordable. I can see this being a place to eat out at without breaking the bank.

I ordered carryout from Chinn’s and was in the mood for something I grew up with in central Ohio called Wor Sue Gai. It is a dish that’s surprisingly hard to find outside that region. I have come to find out that it’s not a traditional Chinese dish, but an old-school American Chinese classic that seems to trace back to Cleveland and the broader Midwest.

I was glad to see a version of it on the menu as almond chicken. While it wasn’t exactly what I remember, it definitely scratched that nostalgic itch. This was solid, old-school American-style Chinese food.

I ordered a combo and chose sweet and sour chicken with steamed rice, and added an order of spring rolls. Everything was flavorful, well prepared, and the portions were generous. Best of all, it was reasonably priced.

A dependable choice for classic Chinese takeout.

Best Chinese food I’ve had since I was a kid!! 30 some years ago. This is how good I remember it tasting. We tried the sweet and sour pork, general tao chicken, both kinds of rice, both kinds of soup and split an egg roll. Mind you we are taking most of all of it home with us! It is delicious! And the atmosphere is nice and quiet with the nicest wait staff. We will definitely be coming back! Worth the drive!

Chinn’s Restaurant is a hidden gem!

We recently found this place and have been back several times since. I’ve never had a bad meal here. The food is always fresh, and as a picky eater, I really appreciate that they let you customize your order.

Portions are huge, so you definitely get your money’s worth. We’ve tried a variety of menu items, and everything has been delicious. My personal favorites are the egg foo young (a full meal on its own!) and the noodles I have chicken and add broccoli—flavorful and perfectly cooked.

They also offer takeout and delivery, which makes it super convenient when we’re craving something good at home.

If you’re looking for great food, big servings, and fresh ingredients, Chinn’s won’t disappoint! just found this

I eat and have opinions about a lot of different Chinese food. This place is top tier among all of them. Delicious food in generous amounts. I like the variety of vegetables and flavors. The lemon chicken actually tastes like lemon, and it goes really well with the ginger beef. The egg flower soup is probably the best I’ve ever had. We also got an incredible quantity of food, so I’m excited to keep eating leftovers for days.

We’ve ordered from here multiple times, and it’s always great so I have no hesitation about recommending.

This place is solid. We went for lunch. The interior is very dated but it’s clean and the food is fast, hot and pretty good. We ordered two lunch specials and both were delicious. I ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken and was happily surprised to see there was actually more chicken than breading . The portion sizes are huge so if you are a light eater, you might want to split a plate. The cream cheese, wontons were the best I’ve had in Salem and don’t forget to order the egg rolls. They’re super crispy and tasty . The prices are very affordable. I will definitely eat here again. Our total with tip was $36. The service was fast.

Ordered out for lunch. Lots of food, friendly staff!

Unfortunately there’s a reason the prices are so great… The food was not good. I’m the kind of person who usually eats all of my lunch. Today I kept the chicken and got rid of the rest.

The Lo Mein was salty, the egg roll should have been called a burrito (btw the special dipping sauce is watered down ketchup). Then there was a dish I had never had before. A gravy covered egg dish… I ate half to be fair but again, super salty and unpleasant.

The two decent 3.5/5 items were fried rice and sweet and sour chicken.

My wife had the beef and vegetable and said she would say at best 2/5 stars.

The quality of food here has made me be er want to come back, even if the price is amazing.

Has my wife just said it’s not what it used to be. We still keep going back. We’ve been going there for over fifty years. Can’t break an old habit I guess. But I wish it would get better like it used to be. Different people took it over, so things are different.Just the way the world goes around.

My favorite Chinese food in Salem. Great prices and willing to make minor changes/substitions. I like to get Chicken with Vegetables but substitute it with the Black Bean sauce. So yummy!
