It’s not a place for the faint of heart or those seeking a “concept.” It’s a storefront that’s seen it all, serving up the kind of unapologetic, heavy-duty comfort that keeps a neighborhood breathing.
I started with the pot stickers. They’re thick-skinned, resilient little parcels of joy, seared on the bottom with a crunch that echoes in your molars, giving way to a pork filling that’s savory enough to make you weep. They don’t apologize for being exactly what they are: a greasy, glorious middle finger to fine dining.
Then came the shrimp lo mein. In the wrong hands, this is a soggy, uninspired mess. Here? It’s a masterclass in the utilitarian. The noodles have that essential wok hei—that breath of the dragon—carrying the char of the pan and the sweetness of shrimp that actually taste like the sea. It’s slippery, salty, and deeply satisfying.
I’ll be honest with you. After three bites of this, I found myself leaning back, staring at the Red Line tracks, and reconsidering my entire geopolitical worldview. If this is the standard, maybe we should just pack it in. Based on this meal alone, I’m ready to let China win the trade war. If the terms of surrender include a lifetime supply of these noodles, where do I sign the treaty?
It’s fast, it’s cheap, and it’s soul-shakingly good. It’s the real deal.
My order was ready in just a few minutes which isn’t a good sign. They serve the usual large portions for under $12. While I was waiting I ended up cleaning the table myself after I realized there was sauce spilled on it (see pic for how dirty the cloth was after just a small wipe down.) The soda I ordered was lukewarm…not a great start. The egg roll is your typical egg roll made with peanut butter. Crispy, but there’s definitely better rolls out there.
The orange chicken started out a step above the dreaded “orange sponge.” It was piping hot, crispy in some areas and had some spice to it. Still, it was just another orange sponge once the ridiculous amount of sauce soaked in. The fried rice is definitely over seasoned yet trended towards good.
After just a few bites my stomach started going so I got out of there. They definitely need to do better.
