Reviews
I’ve been a customer for over 6 years and almost feel like family, so I write this review carefully and with much consideration:
From a culinary standpoint, I have to give them two stars. Food there is rarely consistent in flavor or texture. You can have sesame chicken one day and it’s over-sugared with way too many seeds, and the next day it tastes like a cup of vinegar was poured over the dish right before serving it burnt. The noodles, be it lo mein or chow mein, I can’t figure it out because sometimes they’re soaked, other times dry and fried, are just plain wheat noodles in a brown sauce with no flair with no vegetable to be found. I’ve even caught them using standard linguine once. Beef and broccoli is fair, but mostly broccoli. Egg rolls aren’t half bad. Spring rolls are mostly starch with a few pieces of cabbage. Rangoon is just cream cheese – no crab, no scallions or spices. There is no spicy heat to speak of on anything. Makes me think Norwegians taught them to cook their own food. Like most Chinese restaurants, sugar is the main ingredient, sometimes assisted with a little five spice. Buffet selections are rarely rotated and yes, sometimes the food is cold, but that’s a non-issue if you go during peak hours. The husband/wife team both cook and work late hours to serve our little town, but they lack any passion for their trade. They’re here to work and raise their kids, not create art. Honest to goodness I’ve been tempted on many an occasion to quit my own job and walk behind the counter to teach them about flavor and consistency. It’s straight from semi to fryer to plate.
Service is FAST and prices are reasonable. Portion sizes are generous as are their desire to provide what you ask. Customer service isn’t lacking and anyone who says so simply doesn’t understand the culture barrier.
If you want cheap and fast just to fill your need for overly sweet gluttony, this is a fair place to go for a food coma. If you want quality and atmosphere, drive 50 minutes north. In the meantime, there’s little complaining to do. It’s all we have and it’s not going to change for anyone.
Owners are friendly and accommodating. I’d recommend highly!
