This restaurant is by far the worst restaurant we have ever eaten at. It was expensive and we were not even able to force down the food it was so bad tasting. (We really tried to eat it because it was so expensive). The rice was burned! Normally you would just cook more rice if you had a bad batch.. We were from out of town, so we thought Chinese food is normally a safe bet. Prior to this experience, we had never regretted eating Chinese. However, this won the award for the worst food we have ever tasted. This is actually the first restaurant review I have ever written. I feel that it is my duty to warn you to just eat somewhere else. Anywhere else!

The owners seem like genuinely nice people, but the food was very disappointing.
Our wontons were deep fried for too long making them a little tough, and every dish appeared to have the exact same acidic pink sauce. I’ve never had a mandarin sauce that was pink, and just tasted like sweet vinegar.
Disappointing food, but good service.

Great food, great service, great portions (except on a side of fries). We all loved how fresh and flavorful everything was (some of the BEST fried rice and egg rolls I’ve EVER had- plus they have the best lemon chicken I’ve tried in years.) We ordered #3, #5, #7, and burgers and fries- everyone was happy and full (plus we had leftovers even after sharing). No more going into IF for Chinese- China King is the place to go. I hope more people will support this awesome local business with hardworking and sweet owners!
I have lived in Shelley for two years and have not eaten at this restaurant out of fear from the mixed reviews. Now, I’m shocked and confused regarding the divide. So I’m going to address some of the bad reviews I saw- Justin stated, “They use the same sauce on multiple dishes.” At a first glance, it looked like this, HOWEVER, we tasted the sauce from the sweet and sour pork, Mandarin Chicken, and Lemon Chicken and they were all very distinct. They may have the same base, but they are all flavored differently for each dish.
Tori said it’s “way too much money.” This is a sit down restaurant, not fast food. For $11 we got shrimp, pork fried rice, loo mein, and sweet and sour pork. That’s a great deal for a real meal at a Chinese restaurant. If you went to any chain restaurant, you’re not getting a meal for less than $12. Plus, we got a hamburger (which I thought was a la carte, but it came with fries) for $6. For many items, you’re paying for just above fast food prices, but for a quality and filling meal.
It may be a little outdated, but it’s perfect- I wouldn’t change a thing, other than how often we go.

I came after the dinner hour, so I had the place to myself. Service was prompt and polite. I ordered an egg roll and General Tso’s Chicken.
The egg roll was very large, more reminiscent of a burrito than I expected. It was covered in sweet and sour sauce. It was somewhat unusual, and I had difficulty finishing it. The parts that were hot and crisp were delicious, but the parts that were lukewarm or soggy from the large amount of sauce were not very enjoyable.
The General Tso’s was pleasantly crispy, piping hot, and a little bit spicy, which I liked. The plate was heaped high, easily enough for two people to eat. But it seemed to have too much sauce, and I missed the customary broccoli that many other Chinese restaurants serve with it. But overall, a good tasting dish, which I enjoyed.
The menu states that dinner items come with white rice. Mine came with fried rice instead (I was not charged extra) although the fried rice was a tad strange, having a somewhat unusual smokey taste, as though it had some kind of smoked, cured meat in it. (it looked like ham, I didn’t ask) I didn’t eat more than a few bites.
The decor of the dining room is what you’d expect from a tiny mom & pop place in a very small country town: worn and faded. That said, the tables and bar were clean.
Overall, I’d say I didn’t really like this place. It’s possible that other dishes there would be better than what I had, and I didn’t have a totally horrible experience, but I’m still not sure I’d go out of my way to visit again.
My suggestion: if you want a nice evening out with Chinese food, go visit Yummy’s in downtown Idaho Falls. It’s not far from Shelley, and the lower price, better ambiance, and most importantly, much superior food, definitely justifies the extra distance you’d travel.

The worst experience ever. Ordered dumplings as an appetizer and couldn’t even it them because they were rock hard. After I let the server know she just shrugged it off and walked away. When it was time to pay they were rang up and charged after complaining to her that I did not eat them. One thing I know is that I will never return and will never recommend this place to anyone.

I’m giving a 2 star because the business owners were very sweet. The food was way over priced and underwhelming. It took quite some time for it to come out and it was burnt. The menu was as underwhelming as the food. Hate giving bad reviews to nice people, but I hope it helps improve business seeing as it was dead on a Friday evening 🙁

I lived in Asia for 2 years and I know chinese food well, and these guys are legit! The food was very good, and they were quick and gave us way more than we payed for. Each meal is about $10.00.

Food wasn’t good. Told the Lady that was serving us how we felt. She said it must be me because they have been there since the early 90s and everybody else loves their food. We won’t be going back.

Beware! Old food, tastes like gas station quality. Got sick after eating at this restaurant. Staff is friendly, but the decor is dirty, faded and worn. Go to New star in Rigby it’s worth the drive.

This place was good when i was a kid but i think its time they shut it down, my hisband and i went in there tonight the food was so discusting very hard couldnt even crush the end of his egg roll with his hands and not only that it all looked and tasted old. When we told the lady she disnt offer to remake anything or even discount we told her we would pay for drinks only. At this time we were the only customers inside, then when another gentleman came in she proceeded to involve him by saying ” if someone orders food and doesnt pay its no right, right? They should pay right?” Poor guy was just like “uuhh yeah??” And then she proceeds to call 911 and when the dispatcher couldnt understand her she tried to get said gentleman even more involved by talking to the dispatcher for her in which he told her that he wouldnt and she could talk to them, so then my husband had to talk to the dispatcher. Few mins later the cops show up and proceed to tell us we need to pay her or she could press charges in which i figured would happen. But i cannot believe the service or the food tonight and how unprofessional. Oh and when my husband tried to explain to her that when a customer complains they should try to right thier wrong she replied ” we no care, you order you pay so we can make our money” also she said that in thier 18 years of being open they have never had any complaints and then jist kept repeating that if thier food wasnt good then they wouldnt be open that long. So anyways i highly suggest not going here. Not only cause the food sucks but so does the service!
