South Lyon local and I’ve eat their food for 15 years.
I am used to the yellow chicken gravy that has a strong garlic flavor, so maybe this is just my personal preference. The almond chicken has a lot of fat in it and was of questionable quality. The chicken also tasted like it was fried in dirty, or excessively used, grease. The rice also had this flavor, so I am seeing a pattern of questionable cooking habits.
The egg roll was also greasy but did not taste like it was fried in the same vat as the chicken. However, it was not that good either. It was also bland and even some of my low-sodium soy sauce from my fridge did not help it.
Kim’s Gardens in Novi was the best, so I am comparing this place to my very high standards. It is too bad that Kim’s had such bad owners, and it is probably good that it burned down; although it is tragic that those people had to die in the fire for us to discover that the owners were slave laborers.
The Hunan Chicken was not spicy, but was bland. As neither of the requested sauces came with the order, it was pretty gross. And calling it Hunan “Chicken” is inaccurate, considering 75%+ was veggies (see photo). The chicken I did find was weird, because it seriously kept sqeaking when I chewed it.
The portion of fried rice was generous, and the stuff on top was pretty tasty. Below that, though, it was somehow both soggy and undercooked? Is that possible?
I thought the option of 2 Crab Rangoon instead of an egg roll with a dinner combo was pretty cool. Being my 1st time ordering from them, I figured it was a good way to try them. Unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity, since they were missing from the order.
The egg rolls do not come with plum sauce??? Even that wouldn’t have helped, though. Both eggrolls tasted like extra-salted butter. Terrible! I actually spit it out. And eggrolls are usually my favorite!
I still have my hot and sour soup to try, but I’m not super pumped, considering what a disaster everything else has been.. I wish they’d included the specific request for extra crispy noodles (a qt. gets a little pouch).
I can NOT recommend this place. I wish I’d splurged on my usual place and payed the $3.99 delivery fee.
The soup was as bad as the rest. Very oily, and full of mushrooms to the point that the brother tasted like oily mushrooms. I threw it out, too.
