G to the B
We’ve been eating at China Fortune off and on since it was established. My wife has already appreciated it more than I, but I have always been amused by the angry little girl who was the have of the operation. When Hong Kong Island opened some years ago we stopped going to China Fortune.
This weekend, with the Lobster Festival clogging up the city, we figured we’d drop in on China Fortune.
The angry yelling little girl has grown up into a sullen, angry young woman. The big difference is that the food had improved significantly. I’ve been trying to score a tofu version of Crispy Orange Beef since about 2001 and last night is the first time anyone’s done it justice. The Tofu With Mixed Vegetables was also awfully good, and my wife has long felt that China Fortune makes the best Crab Rangoon in the area.
We’ve found that most any Chinese restaurant will provide tofu analogues of Chinese (and Chinese-American) favorites like General Tso Tofu but they have a tendency to end up with a disappointing texture.
Arriving at China Fortune yesterday evening we found the handwritten menu-board on the wall was almost totally devoted to tofu-based entrees, which proved indicative of a new interest in cooking good tofu options.
I am very grateful, and I will be back soon.

It wasn’t just one bad item that got this place a one star. The whole order was just bad. My general tso chicken’s main ingredient tasted like ketchup. All the fried rice was mediocre at best and the chicken in it was tasteless and slimy. The egg rolls where dry, again tasteless and came with no sauce. In fact there was no sauce for anything. The whole meal was just terrible. Everyone at the store is friendly and nice. But the food is foul.

Excellent General Tao’s tofu and streamed vegetables! The tofu was crispy with a mildly spicy sauce and all was piping hot. Delicious! They close at 8p and at 7:15 they started spraying down tables with a cleaner that I didn’t enjoy smelling but the food was excellent.

Excellent hot n sour soup and they modify the spice level depending on your needs. They also have a great tofu selection (which is not shown on their online menu, but they have several tofu dishes). I got general tso’s tofu today and it was great (but it doesn’t come with any broccoli, which some places do).

I typically don’t leave reviews however this was the absolute worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. The only thing that tasted fresh was the chicken wings but everything else tasted like it was re heated and just tasted disgusting. We ended up throwing out the most of the order.

Best Chinese in Knox County HANDS DOWN! I am vegan and always have to order specific things and they always get my order right and their food is the best tasting. Especially their fried rice and tofu! Most Chinese restaurants do NOT know how to cook tofu right but this place knows how to cook their tofu. It’s frickin delicious

I would rate this a negative number if I could. Fryer was clearly in desperate need of cleaning. All the fried food smelled and tasted of dirty oil, the won tons were overcooked which made them inedible. The rice was great if you prefer more onion than rice. Very sticky and way more salty than other Chinese food in the area (yes, I expect salty). My dinner mate had some beef that she said was good. Best part of Chinese food is the left overs…mine went in the trash.

OMG I cant believe I have to give it one star to post….I spent $ 35.00 at this place & I was almost going to bring it back & ask for my money back but instead I decided to just throw it out! I thought I had BAD Chinese food before but this is the worst food I have ever had! I ordered General Tso & chicken fried rice not hard to ruin a recipe like this??? Oh yes…. rice was fine but I am not sure if I ate PROCESSED chicken pieces or well meat origin was unknown, just slimey….. I had to spit it out….. worst food I have ever eaten in my life not kidding….GO @ YOUR OWN RISK!

If there was a negative star I still think would be too much. The WORST chinese I’ve ever had. Everything was so over cooked. My fried rice was so crunchy and clumpy and my chicken fingers were so hard and dried up. Completely disgusting.

The food here is great. I love how they’re not afraid to add some spice “heat” to the food. The family is always very nice and helpful.
