China Chilcano was fantastic and a standout of our DC weekend. This was our third José Andrés restaurant, and it absolutely delivered.

The food was packed with flavor and beautifully done—fresh ceviche, bold Szechuan chili wontons, great cocktails, and very generous portions. Sitting at the bar made it even better; the bartender was welcoming, knowledgeable, and did an amazing job explaining the dishes and the restaurant’s story, with excellent recommendations all around.

Warm, inviting, and consistently delicious. Highly recommend.

As a solo guest with an Open Table reservation, I was greeted immediately and seated quickly. I had a view of the bustling bar and packed dining area. I have a few dietary restrictions and my server was knowledgeable and professional. Without being able to try the items made with flour (GF) and the items with red meat or pork, my options are always reduced, but I can almost always find something that shows off the kitchen’s expertise. I ordered the Tallarín Zhen Fe, added shrimp, and a Chilcano for good measure. New to Peruvian food, I was pleasantly surprised with how familiar and warm the flavors were. Somehow it was also bright and refreshing with fresh herbs whatever was in that green sauce! It paired really nice with the shrimp and kept me coming back for more. The cocktail was average and exactly as described…tasted a bit like a glorified lime soda for $15. If I had added the MACERADOS for $13 I’m sure it would have improved it. My favorite was dessert. It was delightful. Rich flavor with the caramel, different textures and temperatures all in the same bowl, and reminded me of the swirling fun light that spans the dining room. Serving staff was fast and professional with the bill. All in all, a great way to spend an hour on my last night in DC. Thanks!

My coworkers had excellent things to say about this spot and they did not disappoint. Not only is the restaurant a beautifully designed with low ambient lighting, the music is not too loud, and service is superb. We ordered so many appetizers the ceviche was great and so was everything else. I wasn’t wowed but it was not underwhelming. For the main I got the Aji De Gallina which is the perfect meal for fall! It’s rich, cozy, and comforting. A good portion and flavorful. The star of the show for me was dessert. We got the Suspiro Limeña and it was PERFECT!!! Not too sweet, the perfect balance of passion fruit and the bites of merengue sealed the deal. Worth a visit for sure.

We visited China Chilcano based off of a locals recommendation. We love Peruvian fusion, and this would be a place we would come back to. The ceviche nikkei was fantastic, perfect for one or two people portion wise. (Kind of small). We also had the Kam Lu & Szechuan wontons – both delicious. I will say they came out in sets of 7, which is interesting. We got the char siu platter which was a build your own pork bun. We loved that too, there was a variety of toppings with unique and fun flavors. It came with four buns but 5 pork belly pieces. Nothing wrong with this but again, odd numbers are always odd. We ended with the chocolate cake, which was only okay. I think most people would love it, but the passion fruit was too rich for me personally. The decor feels a little chain like, but the lighting and noise levels were perfect for great conversation. I think the only thing that was a miss, was that our waters were not refilled until the check was brought out. Overall- i would recommend and come back!

Checked this spot out on Mother’s Day this year as they had a fabulous fixed menu. We have been to a few Andres Group spots now and this one is perfect if you arent on a Bazaar budget. Especially when they have special menus

The dumplings were fantastic and the Dancing Yucca was very interesting/tasty. The bonito flakes on yhe Yucca added a delicious smokey element.

We each got a different dish and loved the ability to swap if one liked another dish more than the other. The variety was nice. I will say that the least successful dish of the night was the ceviche. More so due to the extra things that were thrown inside of it. Their bao was delish as well.

Of the desserts, the interesting purple corn dish was the table favorite. Gotta love the whimsy at places like this. If we were in DC as opposed to coming down from Baltimore, i could see this as a place we frequent. Specials seem to be a constant here whether they be food or drink related.

Food is definitely different than anything I’ve ever had. We left it up to the chef to decide our courses. The ceviches were flavorful. Portions are smaller than expected, but they give you a few dishes, so it ends up working out great. You can tell the ingredients are top notch! The chocolate mousse dessert with banana ice cream is amazing!! The other one they gave us is a guava tart dessert. Both are decadent. The lighting in here is not great. All the photos came out the same color, lol. Staff is super friendly and helpful. It was a bit more than we wanted to spend, but worth it.

Wow what an experience. The reservation was easy, the service was great, the waitress was knowledgeable, the staff were on point and the owners were walking around and making sure their guests were happy. Highly recommend checking it out. The $40 sampler meal was excellent and excellent choice and the ceviche was wonderful. I’ve had ceviche in South America and Latin America and this was different but still excellent. Ceviche Nikkei is a must have. The were VERY conscious of allergies and even wrote our dietary restrictions in a notebook with pen and paper. Incredible service.

Very tasty and interesting Peruvian and Asian fusion. We had the Brussels sprouts, ceviche, assorted siu mai, and whole roasted dorade fish. The food was all very flavourful and well presented. We especially liked the whole roasted fish and the siu mai with the quail eggs on top. An excellent, fresh and healthy-tasting change of pace. Service was attentive and the setting was spacious with a fun vibe.

Great meal at China Chilcano in DC. Promptly seated and the room filled up behind me. Lots of drinks both Asian and domestic with others tossed in to boot. My meal was a mix of Peru and Asia with yucca fries and a poke type bowl. The dessert was my favorite part of the meal as it was creative and delicious and the whole thing was part of their “lunch special.” I would recommend.
