Reviews
There are still a few dishes, which have like good quality like their fried rice specials, pork dumplings and noodle dishes, like lo mein, etc.
However, the spring roll was uneatable both the vegetarian and the shrimp one was not cooked properly
Did not enjoy the Dan Dan noodles
The bao buns were OK – could have been better
Mapu tofu was good , chicken fried rice was good, the chicken and lettuce wraps was good
Attaching a few pictures of the same
The food was delicious, fresh, and with generous portions. This is definitely a cut above most Chinese restaurants. I’ve read some negative reviews complaining about the service and food, and can definitely say that was the opposite of what we experienced. The barbecue spare ribs were among the best we’ve ever had, the shrimp were nice and fresh, and the steamed vegetables were perfectly prepared. The menu is extensive.
The tables were spaced far enough apart so we could hear ourselves talk and didn’t feel crowded even though the restaurant was busy.
The restaurant is in a strip mall with lots of free parking, which is very convenient.
We definitely will return and recommend this place for excellent Chinese food. It’s also a great place for lunch and takeout.
We had not gone to this restaurant in the last 3 months, but tried it again last night and found that the foods were less flavorful and did not have as much oil. Maybe they changed their chef?
My future reviews are a mix of all the dishes we have tried over the years. I also included my recent thoughts on the dishes and how they have changed.
Steamed Vegetable Dumplings: we found these dumplings very bland and unflavorful. They came with green veggies inside, and neither the veggies nor the dumpling had any seasoning.
Dan Dan Noodles: these noodles are a household favorite. The noodles are soft and perfectly chewy, and the oil has sichuan in it and is very flavorful. We always remove the meat, and have found the dish a bit too oily but it is still very good.
Scallion Pancake: so we loved these pancakes too (we had to stop ordering them because they are so fried we are scared of getting a heart attack) but they are perfectly crispy, and have a strong flavor of garlic and green onions.
Wonton Soup: this soup was also not good. The soup itself was very bland (it felt like it was just water) and the dumplings inside are not flavorful.
Hot and Sour Soup: the hot and sour soup here is DEFINITELY HOT. so beware
Egg Drop Soup: the egg drop soup here is also fine. It has that gelatin texture and the egg sometimes freaks me out because i can’t remember getting eggs in water.
Chicken w. Broccoli: the chicken and broccoli is always ordered in my house for the people who don’t like very spicy food. It has a sweetness to it, and i personally love the broccoli because it is soaked in the sauce
Shredded Chicken w. Garlic Sauce: we used to order this chicken a lot, and stopped recently. It has a pink/reddish color and the garlic sauce tasted more like tomato.
Diced Chicken Sautéed w. 3 Types of Pepper: this 3 pepper chicken is ALWAYS ordered in my house. It is fried and tossed in a sichuan oil with 3 different peppers (they are very spicy). Every time we order this dish, it always tastes different. Sometimes softer, sometimes chewier, sometimes there are bigger pieces.
Braised Flounder Filet and Napa Cabbage in Chili Oil Sauce: we have recently started to order this dish and it tastes like the 3 pepper chicken, just oiler. There are soft and tender pieces of fish drenched in a soup of sichuan pepper oil. I am not a big seafood person, but this dish does not taste very fishy.
Vegetable Fried Rice: this fried rice is a bit bland, so we always order it to have with a chicken or tofu dish. The flavbvor is there, but you have to focus very hard to taste it. The rice tastes a bit undercooked sometimes, but i prefer the texture and taste. It is tossed in egg, mushrooms, and peas, and has a bit of a saltiness flavor. I recommend getting it, just don’t plan to have it plain.
Vegetable Chow Mein: i never really liked chow mein, and the one from china chalet is not very good. It is a bit bland, and does not have many veggies.
Singapore Rice Noodles: these rice noodles are very different from the rest of the menu because instead of being very saucy, it is so heavily spiced that you can taste the texture of the spice in your mouth. The spice is not spicy, but instead tastes like a curry.
Ma Po Tofu: the mapo tofu here is also another staple in our house. It also comes in a chili oil, and the tofu basically melts in your mouth.
Home Style Tofu w. Black Mushrooms: this tofu dish has quickly become one of my favorite. The tofu pieces are large and are pan fried, so they have a nice crispy crust. The sauce is not spicy, but instead brings flavor that the mushrooms are also drenched in.
Glad to have come for lunch.
Couldn’t resist to order shrimp as well as mabo tofu… as well as lunch special pork and curd. Hot & sour soup also nice.
Szchechuan… be prepared to drink much water. During and after.
The spicy beef was not very spicy.
The spicy wontons were more dumplings than wontons and also not spicy.
Watered down versions of the original.
