Chilacates is a chain of quick service Mexican restaurants around the Boston area. The food is made fresh, and ranges in style such as Birria Tacos and more.
We ordered takeout, and we got the birria taco and some nachos. The nachos were good, not overly spicy but had a good flavor and wasn’t soggy from the cheese on top. We though the Birria taco was a little bit lacking, as it felt flat and not similar to other birria tacos we had, and the flavors weren’t entirely there. Portions were also a bit expensive for what we got.

I can’t believe I am only now writing a review for this place. I used to come there all the time when I worked in the neighborhood. When you come in, you can see that they cook their meats fresh in a giant drum. I therefore know the principal ingredients are fresh. I do miss the pre-inflation days but I still think it’s reasonably priced. One worker used to know my order by heart. I am glad that there has been no drop off in quality since the olden days. Will probably go back if I’m hungry and in the area.

I have ordered from and gone to Chilcates sooo many times. My fiance and I go there nearly weekly. However this evening my fiance picked it up on his way home and in both my quesadilla tray and my side of rice there was hair. Hair that is obviously not mine and not my fiances. I ignored the first hair as it was on top of my sour cream and pico so it was easy to be removed and not cooked into my food. I also didn’t eat my sour cream or pico. Then I’m about halfway done with my separately packed side of rice when I see another hair, same color and same length. I immediately stoped eating, and I’m struggling to mentally ignore that there was two and possibly more hairs in my food. Very disappointed. Never had this happen before but my perception is not damaged and I’ll be fearful in the future when getting food from this location.

Cozy little spot. Great burritos and tacos.. Depending on the day, they’re not fully English-speaking so hard to convey what you want. They are very nice. Parking horrible because it’s the city, Mission Hill. I stopped by for their new crunchy tacos. ! Very good! Great staff. They also have more people working for them now. Minimum wait ,but everything is made to order.

So I have a scale for food you should fall into one of 3 categories: taste great but small portions, taste okay food with decent proportion or not so tasty food but huge portion. If you fall into one of these 3 categories you start off with 3 stars for me but this place had decent food with small portions at a price that when look at portion size is really expensive. I will not be going back.

Ordered online for the first time craving Mexican and this was unacceptable quality. The burrito was overpriced for just a thin, overly dry piece of tortilla. If I wanted that I could’ve fixed it at home. The quesadillas was not only soggy but inedible. It was soaked in pico juice and downright bland. I expected more for a place with 4.5 stars. In the future, I will be spending my money elsewhere

I’m a Southern California native, and these tacos are hands down the best I’ve ever had. Generous portions of freshly grilled fish topped with delicious mango salsa. I ordered 3 but could eat 7 just because they were THAT good. The hot sauce is also

I ordered a carnitas burrito this week. It was my first time coming here, based on the good reviews. However, the pulled pork lacked flavor and seasoning and the amount of meat in the burrito was skimpy. There was plenty of rice and beans but little salsa. Overall, the burrito was disappointing.

Very comparable to the tacos I enjoyed in Phoenix, AZ. I suppose reasonable prices for the Boston area. Paid a little over $6 for two tacos. Tried the mild salsa, it was good. Grilled chicken and pastor tacos = would do again.

Great Mexican with a great selection of ingredients and well put together meals. I had a burrito with the verde pork and it was flavorful and delicious. They also have some great chips though I was a bit disappointed in the flavor of the salsa – it didn’t have much spice to it. One thing I was extremely happy to see were the tamales on the menu and enjoyed the chicken tamale immensely – that is something that can be hard to find up north. Seating is limited but it is a great location for take out. Well worth your time and money to stop by.
