When they are good they are really good. When they are not it’s terrible. I’ve been eating here since the mid 80’s as a kid and it’s been my favorite place all time. In the last couple of years the quality has gone downhill in terms of consistency. If it is a good day and the right employee is there then the order will be correct and the food great. If not it’s terrible and the order incorrect.
This has been going on for a couple of years now and I hoped it would be temporary based on a change of ownership getting up to speed but it continues and the value is no longer there.
In the photo is a #2 half chicken combo. Not even a quarter chicken and a scoop of rice. Chicken was extremely dry.

Stopped by to eat here on my way down to San Diego and the atmosphere was so amazing. I got the chicken with the rice and soup and everything tasted super high quality.
Got my food quickly and the chicken was juicy and fresh.
Highly recommend if you are in the area. Get the chicken soup especially the spices were so good.

This place has the best chicken in town. Not only that, all the sides are cooked in house, veggies, mashed potatoes, rice, Mac and cheese ect, all freshly made daily. The chicken soup is also made daily, made with the bones from the rotisserie chicken, carrots and spinach. Top notch. Try any of the sauces, also made in house. Prices for a healthy lunch here is hard to beat. The girls at the front are always friendly and professional.

Disappointed with the $8.99 lunch special. It tasted fine but advertised as 1/4 chicken unfortunately it consists only of 2 average sized drumsticks. The pictures on the website show substantially more chicken.

My family and I have been customers of Chicks since 1987. The current owner, Eli and his family are very friendly and always deliver excellent customer service every time I come in. Their $6.99 lunch special (before tax) is the best deal in all of San Diego. Their chicken is delicious and they have a lot of sides to choose from. I also love their corn bread, which I always double order. Definitely a go to lunch or dinner spot for anybody living in Encinitas or in the North County surrounding area.

Oh my this place is a must visit! Rice had so much flavor and the chicken is moist and cooked perfectly. Even heated up later in the day was still perfection. And don’t get me started on the corn bread, absolutely perfection. If you don’t live near Chicks, make the drive!

It’s a no for me. 2 stars because the drumstick was good, but my other piece was not and the sides a big no. The cornbread was delicious and one of my pieces of meat was good, but it was worth trying after recommendation, but I will not be back or recommend. The Mac n cheese was awful, I’d rather eat store bought.

Been going here since 1989. Always great chicken and sides. Outside of the center was just renovated. New owners have kept food quality the same, great food and service.

Such friendly and attentive service! The food was outstanding, with each dish prepared to perfection and full of rich, satisfying flavors. A particular highlight for me was the cornbread — truly one of the best I’ve ever had.
