Stopped here based on reviews and looking for good chicken and walleye. Wife and I agree this is the best coleslaw we’ve had in a restaurant for a long time. Chicken was fried perfectly (not pan fried) and walleye was tasty as well. Place was packed on a Saturday night with families enjoying home style dining, so that was a great thing to see and a good sign. I’m looking forward to another visit while passing thru town.

We loved our dining experience at The Chicken Inn in Shelbyville, Indiana. A great Mom and Pop restaurant! The chicken is served fresh and per customer order, so you’ll wait 15-20 minutes just for the fried chicken, but you’ll be glad you did! The homemade chicken and noodles are scrumptious too! However, these are weekly specials, and you’ll have to ask what specials are on which days. The noodles are so light and fluffy. Just like Grandma used to make! In fact, all the meals on the menu looked amazing, as well as all the meals we saw being brought out to each table. All the staff is very interactive, snd take time to chat with everyone. Our server, Nick was courteous, friendly, high-energy quick, and VERY accommodating! He has been working there for over 21 years and shared that he loves his job, the people he works for, and all the customers. Believe me, it shows, and makes this dining experience very memorable. I only gave 4 stars on the atmosphere, as it’s nothing fancy, and looks probably like it did 20-30 years ago, but it’s clean, and comfortable, and we’ll definitely be back! If you’re ever in Shelbyville, go have your meal out at The Chicken Inn!❤️

Food was fresh, hot, and delicious. Atmosphere was down home, service by Wendi was friendly and welcoming.
The warm, flavorful, and gooey Peach Cobbler was the star! One of the best cobblers, hands down!! YUMMY!!

Today my family went to eat here for lunch for my daughter’s birthday. I had seen reviews that it seemed good, because we’re not from here. Walked in, very cute atmosphere there was only 3 other tables in the restaurant with people. We sat down and a gentleman with darker hair, and petite was our server. We get it especially because we have children, and I’ve been in the service industry since I was young, we get things happen.
I’m normally not one to write a review.
Well.. our server took our order and then we didn’t see him for a while, the owner id assume an older man, brought out our food, very kind.
My daughter order bbq wings and he (our server) let us know the wings we got didn’t come with sauce on them, so our server said he’d get some for her.
We didn’t see our server again for atleast :15 minutes and he came out talking to a table about insurance, sat on his ankles on the floor and had a quite long conversation with this table. My daughter waited patiently for this sauce, she didn’t want to eat her chicken without it.
He finally ended his conversation and we had to stop him for the sauce because he did not stop at our table.
He then went and ran two tables their drinks and took another order. And I feel like he felt me looking at him because he then ran into the back got the sauce and then sat it on our table and ran off.
Her food was then cold at this point and she did not want to eat it.
Then he can back by, sat the bill on the table and ran off.
My husband then said I thought you were getting her a piece of pie for her birthday.
And I said welp I guess not.
We got up and paid and left.
I can’t say I’ve had that bad of service in a long time. And it’s really sad because it was my daughters birthday lunch, and she didn’t really eat anything or get her dessert..
under impressed, and very annoyed.
He seemed like he only cared about the people he knew in there that he was waiting on. He also did not come by but once when we had to stop him to check on us.

Had the 3 piece chicken dinner with a side of potato wedges and boy them was big wedges, very, very hot. And the chicken was also very hot. Makes the food better that way.

Saw that this place was on the list as one of the ten best chicken places in Indiana. We decided to road trip here just to find out. It did not disappoint. The chicken is cooked fresh after you order so dont be in a big hurry. Everything came out piping hot and was delicious. The service here was outstanding. This restaurant is very clean and well kept. It is very easy to find using Google Maps. There is plenty of free parking around the building.

I ate the Chicken Inn first in Friendship Indiana in their food truck. It’s the best walleye sandwich I’ve ever had. At the restaurant we ordered the French onion soup which was amazing. We also ordered the walleye and tenderloin. The tenderloin had a really good flavor. The staff was on top of things constantly bringing drinks and cleaning off the table.

Been in Shelby County 22 years and always heard the chicken was “best in Indiana”. So we finally ordered some for carryout. Eleven piece with no extras…..close enough to $50.00 to claim so. No arguments on the price because we “heard” on TV and radio it was “the best”. Six of the eleven pieces were wings and legs. But that’s normal in chicken orders. The Cole slaw was very good, the Mashed potatoes and gravy were okay at the most, the rolls were NOT acceptable at all. Now the chicken…..ate it that night and some more for lunch the next day. Both times made me sick to my stomach. My husband wouldn’t eat any of the leftovers. So for almost a $50.00 investment, very disappointed to say the least. Won’t be going there again.
