Reviews
Great bread, excellent tasty salad and pizza/pasta are wonderful. Prices are reasonable. The other Italian places in Camarillo are not as good.
Among their offerings, my absolute favorite is the FETTUCCINE ALFREDO with Shrimp. The sauce is simply delectable, complemented by perfectly cooked fettuccine. The addition of shrimp elevates the dish to an extraordinary level. I firmly believe that this dish is the best in class, and I make such a statement only when I’m certain.
My wife opted for the Cacio y Pepe Glutton-free option, which, while enjoyable, didn’t quite impress me. However, I insisted that she try my fettuccine Alfredo. To my delight, she was thoroughly impressed and expressed her desire to order it again.
Will definitely come back.
As a family we typically eat our Italian food at home, made by ourselves as it is always much better than what’s available in town. Last night we wanted Italian but were too exhausted to cook, so we thought we would try out Chianti, the new restaurant off Lantana and Daily. I’ve lived in Camarillo for over 40 years, and I can say without a doubt: this is the best Italian food to ever be served in a restaurant here. Honestly, it might be one of the best overall restaurants to ever open its doors in this city. From the creativity of the menu to the level of service, it’s a must-eat for the people of Camarillo who often have to leave town to get any really good food and service.
The Experience:
The hospitality here is top-tier. The man I assumed to be the owner-operator greeted every guest upon arrival, checked in on everyone at their tables, and personally thanked them as they left, a level of engagement and appreciation for the customer that is absent in almost all dining experiences everywhere else in Camarillo. The entire staff (host, waiters, and service team) was quick, respectful, and clearly proud of where they work. The restaurant was busy the entire time of our visit but no one looked upset about it, and no one was worried about the wait. (We waited maybe 7 minutes to be seated but were given updates twice in that timeframe.)
The Food:
We started with a Bread Basket, which featured fresh, soft bread that was the perfect dipping tool for their oil and vinegar mixture.
Appetizers:
• Caesar Salad: The dressing was light and flavorful. It had tiny pieces of bacon that added a great salty crunch. My only critique would be to add a tiny hint of garlic and horseradish to make it a 10/10 dressing, but it was still a great salad course.
• La Marina: A loaded appetizer plate with a variety of seafood; calamari, shrimp, and mussels among others. The cooked spinach leaves were a nice touch, and the broth was packed with flavor.
The Main Course:
• Ziti al Forno: The pasta had the perfect firm-yet-chewy texture. The sauce was subtle and fresh, and the cheese on top was browned beautifully. I finished the entire plate because I leave no man behind when it comes to good pasta.
• Squid Ink Pasta (Special): This was a massive serving of fresh, handmade noodles topped with a mountain of seafood, including one of the largest prawns I’ve ever seen. The sauce tied everything together perfectly, seafood-forward tasting but in compliment with the dish and not over-powering in any way at all. I really hope this becomes a menu staple.
• Fettuccine Alfredo: Easily one of the best Alfredo dishes we have evert had. You can tell the creamy sauce is made in-house and did not taste like so many other Italian restaurants (out of a bottle). It’s clearly a crowd favorite, as we saw it on almost every table.
Dessert:
• It was considered but we were so stuffed and content we did not look at the offerings, but we will definitely do so on our next visit (yes we are going back).
The Verdict:
The wine list is solid (we had a couple glasses of the Sangiovese), the prices are reasonable, and the food is fresh and creative in a way we just don’t see in Camarillo. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is an absolute must-eat.
